Today when I went home for lunch and got the mail, there was an envelope from the school. Not unusual but it was in an interesting envelope. Our principal announced that she was leaving at the end of the year so I thought it was an official letter. Well low and behold to my surprise when I opened it....
Back in the early fall the odd numbered grades participate in the Iowa Basic Skills tests which test students on their abilities in subjects and what they have learned and where they stand at their grade level, competencies, etc. I was so very proud when I read dd's letter - she is at a 9th grade, 5th month level overall. She is a in 7th grade (in fact turns 13 tomorrow
). She has always been a very bright student and went through a bit of a bad time last year with her not turning homework. This year she has done a complete turnaround and said that it is what grandma would have wanted (sappy I know). Some of her percentiles put her in the 95th and 88th range (meaning she did better than 95% or 88% of the kids in the US). To me as long as she tries that is what matters but this just blew me away!!!
We have been in the process of talking about high schools which she will enter in two years. She wants to go a Math and Science Academy here and these will definitely help her providing she can pass the entrance exams. She also wants to go to a Catholic High School and they too look at these scores and grades amongst their entrance exams.
I have not gotten to brag about my dd in a while so thank you so very much for letting me. She really is a great kid!!!!
