with getting my family back to Disney

We won a trip to Disneyland and Disney World last year with Macy's. While it was the most amazing time, it was soooo busy and we missed a lot of things. Prior to that, I hadn't been to Disney since 1997 when I was a senior in HS. Well, I have fallen in love with all things Disney all over again. I have become obsessed with getting us back there ASAP!

BUT there are a few things that stand in my way. One is my DFi won't fly, he's terried. Okay, fine we can drive (we live NH) that will take care of that. Two...DFi just doesn't "get" Disney...he could care less if we went or not. The first time he went was when we won the trip last year. We had to go in June, and it had to be the BUSIEST week ever! There was over an hour wait for the tea cups! I have told him it's not always like that...we need to pick a different time of year to go.

And third...DFi has been out of work for over a year and just went back this week. So, finances....haven't really been the greatest and we have gotten behind some,to say the least.

Even so, I want to go back...I NEED to go back :yay: So, I was thinking, okay I've always wanted to see it at Christmas time, so maybe December 2011 would be a good time to plan a trip, BUT I don't think I can wait that long! :rotfl: THen I was thinking maybe March of 2011...at least that's just a little over a year away.

So, I don't know! But I can't see to shake this Disney bug....it's grabbed a hold of me and isn't letting go!

I can totally relate to being Disney crazy! It pretty much started in 2005 for me when we went with our knowledgeable Disney friends. She knows how to do DL and everything was sooooo wonderful. Now you can see (below) how many trips we've taken since then.

We just did a Xmas trip + DCL last month and I'm so sad I don't have another Disney trip planned. Now, I"m hoping we will go to DL in June and even that seems so far away.

I can make a totally budget trip and we have a blast but DH needs a Disney breaks:sad1: Sorry I can't help you much since I'm in the same boat with my hubby.

Well, my first thought is "get a new boyfriend" :lmao:! But, you probably already like this one and have him reasonably trained, so can you plan a trip without him?

If he's just not that into it, just take the kids. He may enjoy a week at home alone, you can get your WDW fix in. then plan a trip somewhere around his interests and you can all go.

:rotfl2: Oh I can soooo relate!!! I feel the same way!! Finances have prevented us from getting back, but I am determined to save so we can go back, probably Jan or Feb 2011. Gosh that sounds way to far away!!!! I guess we should just think of it this way.....we will have LOTS of time to obsess and plan. (which is 1/2 the fun for me!)

Congrats on winning a trip, how exciting!!! I would try and take DFI one more time, like you said during a less busy time of year. He may enjoy himself more, plus you have an idea of what it's all about and can plan to do some things that you really enjoyed last trip, or perhaps didn't get a chance to. I know that for me, waiting in line an hour for a ride, you have big expectations!! I am usually let down.

Another thought, would he mind if you went without him? Shocking, I know, but some people just do not love Disney! :confused3 Sometimes I would like to leave DH home just because of the stress he brings!!! He is not a very patient man! A trip with a girlfriend or sister would be so much fun!

It is soooo hard when DFi doesn't have the same excitement that my girls and I have....but there is no denying how excited he was to see that Castle in WDW last year :rotfl2: Plus what a great smile he has on with his picture with Goofy! I would leave him behind in a heartbeat  but he has this thing where he says he's not going to go and doens't want to go....and then changes his mind at the last minute. He's not a very good planner! When we won our trip last year, my father was sooo close to coming with us, and then DFi decided he was coming. If i did go without him, I would probably bring my dad, one for another adult and two, he loves it there as much as I do.

I am officially on a mission now! Coming back to the boards and reading the TR and all the excitement on here....I am planning a trip! I think March 2011 sounds good, before spring breaks of course! Yep, that's it....WE ARE GOING then...that gives me over a year to save. I can do it, I can do it! :thumbsup2

Still...it sounds so far away

The flying vs driving issue has been decided, so no problem there.

The issue of him not "getting" Disney isn't really an issue since you said he doesn't care if you go or not. (we avoid summer due to crowds and heat and we always do rope drop)

The third issue is the one I'd be thinking about most. If he's just getting back to work, I wouldn't feel comfortable going too soon. Secure finances come before a big vacation and I'm sure you feel the same way. That doesn't mean you can't plan, though. Plan the next trip far enough out to make saving for it possible.

Btw, awesome about winning the trip!

Absolutely the finances are the biggest one, but I'm figuring (and hoping) that if I start to plan a trip for March 2011, that gives us over a year to get things back on track and save. We are not that far behind, really, when I think about it. All our improtant bill are current, we just have to catch up on the other "no so important ones" if there is such a thing :rotfl:

Now that I think about it, I don't even know if March is a good time to go! I would go early March, but we're not ones for extreme heat and when we were down there in June is was unbearable, High 90's, high humidity plus a gazillion people makes for a cranky me :lmao:

we are not able to go this year due to money. We're taking this year to enjoy the summer at home. Spend time at the park, beach, etc... We're going in 2011 probably September but it's going to take that long to save up money. I'm a disney nut and love WDW. I'd love to go this year but at least saving for next year's trip we'll be totally ready to go! We've got the change jar started. Each week we get a roll of quarters, dimes, etc. what ever we can squeeze out of the check book. Then by putting it in the "change jar" we usually not take from it.

I never realized how much I loved WDW until we won that trip. Now, I'm a tad obsessed. When we had won that trip, I was in the works of planning a trip for this January, but when we won, I didn't have to do that anymore. But I had also started a change jar, well more like a bucket! It's one of those gigantic cheezeball buckets that you get at the wholesale stores. I cleaned it all up and glued pics of WDW all over it. Needless to say, it's back in the living room and collecting all change!

When we won that trip, that was the first real vacation my family had been on, ever! And it was so wonderful to have that time with them, and not a care in the world, that I can't wait to do it all over again!

One of my other plans....I am a smoker (booooo...I know) Well, I am so ready to quit. I have tried cold turkey so many times and it just doesn't work for me. So, I have decided I want to get hypnotized....and all the money that I will save from quitting...going to my WDW fund!

I feel your pain. We too went in June and I got the bug. We too were busy and didn't get to do the stuff we wanted. I would love to go back. I even priced a trip for May this week. Ain't happening so don't know why I tortured myself. I mentioned to someone last week that I wanted to go back in October 2011. DH overheard and just stared blankly at me. He doesn't realize that I have been putting away money since we got back. I hadn't thought about going without him... :rolleyes1

One thing that someone told me she does to save, whenever she gets take-out for lunch, she makes herself save that same amount. So that $7 meal, now costs $14. This makes her think about what she is "wasting" her money on. She is effectively saving by either not getting take-out to begin with or forcing herself to save if she does. Just an idea. I might try something similar myself. I would think it might also help with my diet.

Good luck saving!
