A friend told me they're going to WDW over 4th of July, getting the DDP, and want to wing it with their party of 10.

She had no idea what MB's were.

I think I have a twitchy eye. Part of me wants to jump in and do it all for her. Another part just tells me that if she wants my help, she'll ask. Another part says that she can have any kind of vacation she wants.

Must. Resist. The. Planning.

But seriously, I've been there too... what I usually do is send a few links including Disboards of course to the person and then I feel I've atleast attempted to help. You can lead a horse to water but... ;)

I was going to suggest the exact same thing. Tell her in the email that if she has questions she can give you a call. Then the ball is in her court, you don't have to do all the planning, and if they don't have a good time, it's not your fault!

That would make me crazy. Maybe she doesn't really care where they eat, but with a party of 10, wow. I'm the planner in our family. My husband tells me to let him know what time the plane leaves, make sure he has an itinerary, and he's good. Some of us are just planners, and some aren't. ;)

I guess I wouldn't resist...because I wouldn't want to hear about how awful WDW was and what a crappy time they had because they wanted to wing it with the DP for a party of 10. A party of 2, maybe, but 10? That's a large party. Tables are for 4, rounds for 5-8, max. OY!

She must not be even reading her own reservation because they do tell you about MDE, don't they? Good luck to her is all I can say!

YES! I TOTALLY AGREE!

She (and her family) are very high-maintenance, high-drama people and I wouldn't want to be in that group in July when it's 90+ degrees out, her kids are melting down, there's no FP's for the rest of the day, and they can't get into a TS restaurant to use their credits.

Her mother made all the reservations and is footing the bill. I think she believes she and her family will just show up and have a good time.

I would give some tips, but I've learned that there's no help for some people. And those are usually the ones that come back complaining about the miserable time they had and the crowds they encountered and they had to eat counter service meals the entire time. Those are also the ones that don't usually have a repeat trip.

Unless they got the qs dining plan they really need to make advanced reservations. I'd interfere and warn them of that.

I'd let them be. If you interfere, then when things go sideways, people just end up blaming you for it sometimes.

The way I see it, the non-planners like this are the ones who make it so much easier for us planners to have the vacation we want, no matter the conditions!

I wouldn't offer any advice unless asked :confused3

Does anyone else see the irony in this statement? LOL

I'm a planner to the max, can't even fathom the trip this lady is going to be taking. Sounds like a nightmare! But even I can concede that it might be possible to just show up at Disney for free and have a good time! :goodvibes

I don't care if they show up and don't have fp planned, but if they purchased the dining plan, they should at least be warned how it works and if they don't listen they can't say they weren't warned.

I was talking to a friend of mine the other day and she said she wanted to take her child to Disney World in a few years. I don't remember exactly how it came up but I said something about how it's really important to research and plan the trip and she said: "It's a theme park. You wait in line and go on rides. What's to plan?" :sad2::scared::faint:

I would tell her two things.

1) The time period around 4th of July is the third busiest time of the year at Disney after Christmas-New Years and Spring Break. There is a good chance that at least MK will close to capacity at some point.

2) Walk up dining will be very difficult to get at that time of the year ESPECIALLY with a large group. She will be wasting money on the dining plan if she doesn't have reservations.

Then I would offer my help if she wishes it and watch what unfolds. If she comes back and complains about the trip I would flat out tell her that I offered help and she didn't take it, so I really don't want to hear any whining.

Ohhhh yes. Drives me crazy too! I have a co-worker there from Good Friday until the day after Easter and she is also planning to wing it. And I told her about FP+ several weeks ago. She could have had time to plan. Oh well:-(

Is it bad that I'm hoping for more people like that aimlessly walking around while I'm enacting my plan
I'm being evil the day before Easter!

O*M*G*** Is this their first trip? We had one day at MK during Easter Week last year and all we could do was laugh! Literally elbow to elbow. There was a LINE stretching through Adventure Land to go up the Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse (the whole tree was full all the way up). I kinda remember it like that from my childhood before there was more than just MK, but it was no joke. DD and I were saying we sure hope this isn't anyone's first trip, cause they'll probably never be back! :bitelip: Crazy!

Yikes! I guess they'll discover all of the resort restaurants during their trip. I can't see much of anything else being open.
