I have an idea for a product but what now?

I have an idea that I really believe would sell but I have no idea what to do with it. How do you develop a model of it, trademark it, sell it, etc.? Does anyone know where to start?

I'm not sure, but the first thing that came to my mind was to try to contact QVC. I know that might sound strange, but I bet they have helped people get a new product off the ground.
