I have a strange question...

How long did you wipe your kids butts for them? My son just does not do a thorough job at it, so I still help. He's four and I know my daughter was taking care of her own behind by then. Is it a boy thing or is my son just strange?

Have you tried the flushable wipes? that might help. I have no clue when I stopped doing my sons.. Maybe a couple of months after he was potty trained. 3 and a half or so. My dd has been doing it since she was potty trained.. but she has control issues.

First off...

Okay, we are at 5 and still doing it. I bought some of those flushable wet wipes but he still leaves tracks (I know gross). He has an EXTREMELY long torso so it's hard for him to reach back there and give it a good once over without contorting. Poor guy, his body is growing at weird rates.

Sad to say if I don't follow up, I have to soak the underwear.

My son is five and we finally put our foot down and made him do it himself about four or five months ago. The problem was, up until a month or so ago he either did not wipe at all headache: ) or did not wipe enough.

Finally, he's wiping on his own and doing a good job of it.

This must be a 4 year old boy thing. DS, 4, will yell for daddy to come and wipe his butt! It drives me up a wall!! However, DH will get up and wipe the butt! What to do with little boys?

TMI warning

I thought my five year old was not wiping well since I I keep finding big track marks in his underwear. It turned out that that was not the problem at all. His intestine was full of stool but he wasn't going, and the track marks were just leaks. My pediatrician told me that it is pretty common in boys of that age. 1:10. I realize this may be TMI but the earlier this condition is caught, the easier it is to resolve. Since I had never heard of it before, I thought I'd give a public service announcement.

BTW, my son is completely fine now. He was on Miralax for six months but never had a problem with staining etc once started on it.

I only have girls but I stopped before they went off to nursery school, so age 3. Those flushable wipes were wonderful and really helped a lot at that age. I even used to put some in zip lock bags that they put in the back packs for school in case they needed them there.

I haven't wiped Aidan's butt since he trained which was before he was 2... he was such an easy child. I hope this one is the same way.... I know its not likely but a mom can dream right?? I think I wiped the girls butt til they were 3 maybe 4 with those messy poops...

Thank God for all of us Mama's that do thoroughly clean the hinny, it makes the public swimming pools a much nicer place. However, after reading this thread, I bet a lot of stinky hinnies cancel us out!

My DD's did it for themselves as soon as they trained, but DS was about 4 or 5 when I stopped if I didn't clean him and he didn't get a bath that day he would get sores on his butt.

DS 5 finally started wiping his own butt. It took MONTHS of me trying to get him to go solo. He's go poop then yell "MOM COME WIPE MY BUTT!!!" I'd follow up with "Are you a big boy or a baby?" He'd say big boy of course and I would tell him mommy's do not wipe big boy butts they only wipe baby butts. Then he'd go "OK I am a baby" Finally one day he answered back and said "Ok. I'll wipe myself then" but he was mad at me afterwards - lol

my boss has two very immature daughters. She was wiping one of their rear ends up until the girl was 10! only very messy episodes, she assured me. This was some years ago.
