you all have been so helpful so far. I have a 5 year old girl who loves to play my husbands x box and we would like to get her something for christmas of her own. I had pretty much decided on the leapster l- max but after all this talk about game boy advanced am wondering if she will get bored with it leapster. I know that the game boy games are not educational or are they. I am so confused. PLease some advice if you can help what would you buy or have bought thank you in advance!!!

No education games but lots of little kids games like Sonic, Disney games and with the Gameboy Advance SP you can buy videos to play on them.

If she's already playing the XBOX - I'd get her a Gameboy Advance SP for sure unless you really want her playing education games, then the leapster - personally, I never did buy a leapster when my DS(9) was smaller - since age 3 he's played the console video games.

My five year old lover her gameboy advance. They do have somewhat educational games that require counting or letters. You just have to read back of boxes.

if you want a game console that uses a tv instead of a handheld check out V-Smile. It works like an xbox or playstation, you buy different game cartridges for it, $20 each, never seen them higher. The games are educational but they play like a video game. They just came out with a handheld that plays the same games. My 12 yr old has no interest, it's way below his level, but my dd's 6 play it all the time. It's easier to use then playstation and the controllers can be used either left or right handed. I think it's targeted for ages 3-8, the games are in I think 3 different levels, 3-5, 4-6, and 6-8 or something close to that. They use a lot of the disney characters (Ariel, Mickey, Cindy, Aladdan) plus some other popular characters (Spongebob, Scooby Doo, Dora, Bob the Builder, Barney) and several others I'm forgetting.

Just gave DD5 a Leapster for her birthday - she loves it! She wanted to play it ALL day today! And DS8 has asked for one for Christmas, since she did let him borrow it for a few minutes. He likes it better than his gameboy.

Since she is already playing xbox, I would opt for the gameboy advance. I am getting my DS (6) one for Christmas. I do alot of educational stuff with them, he deserves just to have fun. :)

My 5yr old son loves the Leapster. Personally, I would recommend it over the Vsmile. We had the VSmile and the Leapster is much better in so many ways. We also have Gameboys and both my boys prefer the Leapsters!

(DS also loves his PS2!)
