I have a question about reservations.

I read something yesterday that confused me. I would like to reserve at the appropriate time 11 month window for my home resort AK for 6 nights for 11/09. But, I really would like to stay there for 3 nights and then move to BCV or BWV for 3 nights. So, if I book the 6 nights at 11 months, then I call at 7 months and ask for the last 3 nights day by day. My question was someone said something about it getting tricky if you don't have enough points. I don't understand that. If I have enough for the 6 nights but not enough to double book but that is not what I am trying to do. I am so confused.....as to how this works and does it mean I would have to borrow points to do it? If so I don't want to do that because I know once borrowed they can't be put back.

Here is where the problem comes in, especially during a busy DVC season.

At 11 months you book 6 nights at your home resort. At 7 months you want to change some or all those nights to a different resort, but you don't have enough points to book the new resort before cancelling your home resort reservation. So MS says "Yes, there is availability." But, sometimes, someone else will grab that availability away while MS is canceling your home resort...so now you've cancelled your home resort, your cancelled reservation automatically goes to someone on a waitlist, and you have lost the availability at the "new" resort, so you either have n place to stay, or must waitlist.

Egads, that is tough. At least I understand how it can happen now - thank you for clarifying. I think I will be okay for a few years anyways because I will have extra points. I am going to bank this year 2008 points and go in Nov. 08 on developer points. So when I reserve for Nov 09 I will use the banked points from 2008. Then I can use the 2009 points to make the second reservation and if all goes well put them back into their use year and then bank some or most of them for the next year!!! By george, I think I've got a plan!!!!
