I have a few bus questions.... *updated in original post:)

Yes, you did ask how often the buses come and then sort of tried to answer your own question with the comment about once an hour or more or less. When you used the hour time frame, I guess people assume that you thought buses might only run on the hour. You later stated that you could not wait more than three minutes for a bus. It sounds like you are setting yourself up for disappointment if you do not want to wait for a bus. You will wait for a bus, you may wait for more than one bus at times. People were trying to explain this to you and you get mad at them.

If you want to attack reading skills, might I add........the name of the Resort is the French Quarter, not the French Quarters.

I totally understand your question about the schedules. When we stay at shades of green their buses do run on a set schedule - every 20 min to TTC, so prompt that you can set your watch, and every hour to DHS/AK and others. So you never really have to wait, you just judge your timing on when you'll arrive to get the bus.

Disney buses are not scheduled like that, unfortunately.

I wish the resort buses ran like that. It would be much easier to plan.

I'd actually hate that, but that's me. I could see myself rushing my to get to the bus, and then watching it pull away because someone was a little too slow getting to the stop, which means we then have to wait an hour for the next one.

It's only the AK and HS buses that run hourly, and if you know you're not going to miss the bus then you simply hop on the TTC bus from each of those parks and then transfer to sog bus, OR you hop on the POLY bus from those parks. Once you get to the poly there is a path to SOG.

so it's very simple. We rarely have to wait because we plan accordingly and always know when the buses will arrive. Not to open a whole other can of worms but you also know that if you want a seat, you arrive early. There is no pushing and shoving to get a seat, no line jumping, nothing. Because everyone knows what time the bus is coming.

That's a great idea. A hired car and driver-perfect if the busses are scary, or if you can't wait for more than a few minutes for one, or if you refuse to rent a car. Cabs even can take more than a few minutes to arrive, so just hire a car and driver to be at your beck and call!!

Just curious but does a cab drop you right at the front of MK or the TTC??? never took a cab to a park before. I know its better to take a bus than drive to MK bc you have to park at TTC then monorail over.

For Mk it drops you off at the TTC.

For me I'll be staying at Wilderness so we'll take a boat there.

Okay...here, on the Transportation board, we don't much hold with the snarkiness that has been going on in this thread. So, either post politely or risk getting your post deleted.

So..if staying at WL, take the boat to MK, but you already know that. It is a wonderful way to get there and back.
Buses will run every 15-20 mins or so. If you are heading to DHS, and the bus is just pulling away, you 'might' get a bus in 5 mins or you might have to wait 15 or so. If it's at park opening, they tend to come more frequently.

People here, on the Trans. board realize that the buses are not going to cut it for everyone. So, if someone wishes to use cabs then so be it. It's not what I would do, but that doesn't mean someone else shouldn't do that if that's how they want to travel.
So..put your snarkiness aside people. Otherwise this thread will be locked faster than you can say 'bus'.

Thanks, That's pretty much what I've gathered, so I know that the morning buses won't work for me. Not knowing when the bus is coming will be too much for me. I have high functioning autism and my anxiety does get the best of me at times. Waiting for a bus and not knowing when it will come could prove to ruin my day....and I get it, it's funny to people. Rest assured, no one will be poking fun at anyone else, here on this board. You need to do what is best for you, and unless you choose to, there is no reason you should ever need to explain the 'why' of your decision.

I have another question if thats ok....when taking the buses home, how late do they run?

In order to not spend on cabs more then once a day our plan was to hang around the parks for maybe an hour after closing(we understand that the whole park won't be accessible) then going over to the bus stops. If I remember correctly each bus has it's on bus stop at the parks?

will this work. will buses still come after the parks have closely emptied? I'm just thinking it would be in my best interest to wait for the lines to go down.

I was surprised that things got a bit heated. OP, my only guess is that in your apprehension of taking the bus, the pps on this thread basically gave strong thumbs up to the buses. But you're still not convinced. (Maybe felt like a waste of time to them.) Might have been a different story if the reviews were mixed. IMHO, if in all the times you've been to WDW, you haven't taken the buses, it sounds like the thought of them is pretty unappealing. But since you inquired about them, why not try them once or twice? You might be pleasantly surprised. And let's say it's confirmed that it isn't your cup of tea (b/c you have to wait longer than desired), it wouldn't ruin your entire day just b/c you tried it once, right?

Also, you said you would be willing to take the bus from the park back to the hotel. Have you done this before? Just curious why you'd take the bus from the park back to the hotel, but not from the hotel to the park? Anxious to get to the park for RD or something? I say that b/c taking the bus back, you still might run into stopping other resorts.

Ultimately, I think you should do what is most comfortable to you. You're spending a lot of money on your vacation, to have a good time. If you want to use it on a cab, it's up to you to decide if that's money well spent.

Do you know why SOG buses go to TTC, not MK?

In my OP I did say we were thinking we would just use cabs in the mornings, but I was curious to know how they ran. Having never been on one, I'm not entirely sure. The post did reinstate my belief that I would be better off using the cabs in the AM. But it wasn't like I didn't say right away that I was planning on using the cabs, but just wanted back up info, kwim?

As for taking the bus in the evening, that I will do because I can walk up to a specific designated area for my specific bus. Where in the morning, from what I gather, everyone will wait in one area and just hope the next bus is the one they wanted. Which would be to much for me, the not knowing part. I also will not have any place I have to be.
Most likely we will only take buses home from DHS and AK. From Epcot we can take the monorail and from MK we can take the boat. The boat, even though we will have to wait will be fine. because I know that the boat is going from point A to point B and then turning around. I can almost know when the boat will arrive.

Buses run until everyone is out of the park. As long as you are inside the park gates, or on the way from the gate to the bus area, you will be put on a bus.

BUT ... if you are an hour or so after the park has closed, be forewarned that you may have to wait for a while, sometimes sitting on the bus. When there are only a few hundred people left, the buses are dispatched as needed. That means a bus may sit there for a while waiting for more guests to come out, and also a bus may stop at as many as 5 resorts (which are not necessarily close to each other.)

This doesn't apply to boats and monorails, which don't always run until a park clears. If you're leaving a park and the boats or monorails have stopped running, you will be directed to a bus instead.

Also, the taxis usually clear out from the taxi stand before the buses reach that stage. You'll likely have to call a taxi if you're that far after closing.

Buses run at least an hour after closing and until the last guest is gone. However the later it is the more likely the routes will be combined.

Yes, each resort has it's own stop unless it is combined but they are clearly marked.

FWIW I find it much less stressful to take the bus to the parks in the am then I do leaving at night. We grab a cup of coffee and head to the stop, relax and set our clock to "vacation time" and head out to the parks.

I am much more likely to spring for a cab at parking closing - yes you can wait for the lines to thin out but then the buses run less frequently and may combine routes.

The bus systems works very well IMHO and since I hate to drive, not driving on vacation is worth any extra time we encounter.
