So I slipped on my sons train and now have a hairline fracture in my foot along with sever tendonitis. I am going to require physical therapy so have absolutely no idea what part of recovery I will be in for our trip (May 30). I was hoping that I maybe able to find some advice as to what I can do to help myself while there. I can walk, I am not using crutches just a surgical bootie and ace bandage (along with medication for the tendonitis). My walking is not for long periods of time at all, more like 15 minutes or so. What are my options for a wheelchair or scooter? If I rent a scooter how do I transport it back and forth in my car? Are scooters allowed on the busses? Any information would be greatly appreciated. We are taking our daughter and truly do not want to cancel the trip we just want to be as prepared as possible.

Thanks so much!!!
Lisa

Scooters do not have a way to elevate your leg so that is the first question I have for you. If that is important then go with a wheelchair and tell the rental agency that you will need to elevate the leg.

Rental agencies sell scooters that break apart so they should fit in your car. Scooters are allowed on all WDW transportation except for a few small boats. You can take them on monorails, trains, buses, and ferries.

scooters allow the user freedom to go places without depending on someone. Wheelchairs fir in car trunks and are smaller but there is the wear and tear of the driver. I have pushed my mom around in a chair and it is not easy even in the Aquarium which is mostly indoors and level ground.

Check the FAQs stickied on this board for lots of information.

DW broke her foot the month before our trip last summer and had her boot. She didn't need at WC or ECV at home, but she thought the trip would be more pleasant if she had an ECV. We drove to WDW and she rented an ECV from one of the vendors that delivers to the resorts. It was wonderful. It spoiled all of us. On our arrival evening, before ECV was delivered the next morning, we went to DTD and DW soon realized she couldn't make it very long walking. It was money well spent.

There is information in post #2 of the disABILITIES FAQs thread about renting ECVs.
As was already mentioned, you can get one that will fit in your vehicle. Just make sure to tell the rental people that you want to transport it by car.

Also in the disABILITIES FAQs thread, you will find one post that is all about transportation that includes information about bus travel.
