Hello Everyone-
This is my first post but I have been lurking for weeks. You are all so helpful and nice, I just know you'll have some suggestions for my problem.

Let me explain....
We finally took the leap the end of February and booked our first Disney Cruise for November. My DH is a Navy Reservist and wouldn't you know it, he was put on alert this weekend. He was told to be prepared to be called to Active Duty this fall. I could cry. We can handle another deployment since that's what he signed up for, but DS10 knows all about the Cruise and will be crushed if we have to cancel.
So my questions are -
Has this ever happended to anyone else and what did you do about it?
Does anyone know if Disney has a policy regarding Military Activations?
Does anyone know of any Travel Insurance that will cover it?

We are considering moving the cruise to early September. I'm just so nervous about Hurricanes!

HELP!

I don't know the answer to your questions, but if anyone will, it will be someone on these boards. I just wanted to tell you that I feel for you and wish you and your husband and your son the best of luck. Take care.

Julie

Can't help much, just wanted to offer a hug. My DH is Air Force, and we changed our original date because that is when he is scheduled to be deployed (short term, thank goodness). I did buy trip insurance specifically for this purpose, so I hope it is covered. If you have already booked, I would call the travel agent and ask. Do this as soon as possible, so that you have time to make whatever arrangements need to be made. Perhaps you could move your trip up? Or back?
Anyway, :grouphug: to you, and thank your DH for all he does for our country.

ooh..umm not sure on travel insurance and deployment. I really even wonder if thats one they thought of. Trip interruption is covered, but since you know of the impending deployment I wonder if that even falls under that coverage.

If the navy is saying this fall but used to deployments too, it could be earlier than expected. It's a tough one.

Personally I would contact Disney Cruise Lines and see what options they can offer you. I'm willing to bet they have some contingency in place or can work something out with you. Disney as a whole has been very supportive of reserve, guard and active military who are serving right now.

I have never heard of anything in regard to military activation so I can't speak to that, but if you are really concerned I would just move it up to September.

I know you said that you don't like hurricanes, but in reality there is no danger. The ship has a state-of-the-art weather radar system so the ship is never in any danger.

Yes, there is the possibility of itineraries changing, and a whole host of other possible scenarios, but for every bad story posted about last summer you will find just as many positive ones.

My family sailed last August 21st and the hurricanes didn't affect us one bit. Humorously the next sailing August 28th - western caribbean sailed to its ports of call, but before returning had to "sit it out" in Galveston which meant the cruise was extend 3 more days so they paid for a 7-day and got a 10-day for no charge.

Regardless of the stories I wouldn't be concerned one bit about safety, but be flexible about the ports of call because, "Hey, you never know".

I went to the following site http://insuremytrip.com/ and looked up this FAQ

Q. I am in the military. What if I am called to duty or denied leave?

A. If your leave is denied because of declared or undeclared war, all policies will exclude that reason. There are several companies that address military leave or being called to duty in one form or another: Access America, Travel Guard - Cruise, Tour & Travel plan, Travel Insured, TravelSafe and Travelex all have "perils" that touch on this.

With respect to hurricanes ... not much you can do about weather. When Mother Nature wants to deliver it - she will. By the way, I believe that Hurricane Season runs from Sep-Dec. Have been on three trips in Sep. Only one was affected by a hurricane. Route changed and it rained one day. GO FOR IT!!! Enjoy the time with your husband & son.

We are PROUD of HIM & YOU - Thanks.

Actually it starts June 1st and goes to November 30th.

Regardless I do agree with you to go in September.

I hope that this all works out for you MickeyManiac. :flower:

I would like to add my family's thanks to your family for your husband's service. We are so very appreciative of all that you are doing for our country.

Thanks again!

Last year hurricanes hit Florida so hard, what are the chances it would have back-to-back bad years?

Personally, I would go with Sept. instead of missing out on the cruise.

Thanks to your family for the sacrifices you make to keep our country free.

:cheer2: :sunny:  :boat: :fish:

I'm sorry that I don't have any info to offer about the trip insurance or sailing in September ... got a November trip booked myself. But I honestly could not let this post go without sending a big THANK YOU out to your DH for all that he and his fellow servicemen and women do to protect us. And also a big THANK YOU to you and your DS for supporting him at home. I can't even imagine how stressful this time must be for you all. I hope you can get everything worked out and you'll enjoy a GREAT vacation :grouphug:
