I have 8 kittens to find homes for

Some of you people need to lighten up a bit here.

You are calling this poster an irresponsible pet owner. When that is not necessarily true in this case. Sometimes these things just happen as seems to have happened here. You cannot always control everything that happens in this life. Sometimes animals become pregnant when they shouldn't, sometimes people become pregnant when they shouldn't too!!

At least she has taken responsibility for these kittens, is trying to find them good and decent homes. She could have just thrown them out on the street! Then she would have been an irresponsible pet owner.

This is true, but I can't imagine why a cat old enough to have kittens was not already spayed? I understand she was booked to get spayed, but if a cat is old enough, having her spayed should be done almost as soon as you bring her home.

And will , I assume be from a professional breeder who knows what they are doing, and not just from someone who's unspayed dog "got out of the yard".
Actually no it won't be from a professional breeder. It will be from an Animal Shelter. The puppys/animals at this shelter are very well taken care of. They recieve all necessary "puppy" shots, are spayed, etc before they are brought home.

Even better. :)

I agree with the person who said "lighten up" on the OP. ::yes::

It's not like she isn't taking responsibility for the kittens, she's finding good homes for them.

I guess I would be in the minority if I went to an animal shelter to find a cat, I wouldn't want a kitten, I'd want a full grown cat. You don't know what their personality is going to end up being like when they are kittens. I'd rather have one that I know is loving, affectionate and a true "lap cat." Plus a cat would be more calm, I wouldn't want to go through that "kitten" stage.

I had to have my precious cat put to sleep in December, but in February I reluctantly "gave in" when my DD asked me to take one of their cats. They'd had it as a kitten and she'd tried to find a new home for it a couple times but no luck, so I agreed and I have been so thankful I did! She is such a sweetheart, and a true "lap cat". I did have her spayed (and front paws declawed, I know some of you don't believe in that but for us it's the best thing in the long run) soon after I got her and she never goes outside.

Anyway, to the OP - good luck in finding new homes for the kittens! I have a friend who had a stray cat "adopt" her (an outdoor cat) and then she had kittens so my friend took them all in and then when they were old enough she found good homes for them, AND she paid the $$ to have the stray cat fixed!! :)

I agree, lets lighten up. Not everyone agrees with everyone else.

my girl kitty isnt altered yet, my male kitty is. I have to get it done, I know that. I also have to take my kids to the dentist and the doctor ,get ready for school, work, take care of my home, get the dog her shots ( tomorrow).... we all have lives. Sometimes these things just arent priority number 1 for everyone. My girl kitty for instance RUNS from the door, she is scared to death to go outside even when she is in heat. I know it has to be done it will be done it just HASNT been done YET.

putting on flame suit now.

We adopted a young cat from a shelter 5 years ago, when we took her home we were told that she had to be spayed within the next month (she was just under 6 mos old.) I went home and made the appointment. Well 4 days before the appointment our cat almost died, seems she got pregnant at the shelter and was too young to hold the babies. The sacks were rotting in her body and she couldn't expell them.

So yes things do happen even at a respectable, responsible shelter. ITA, most here need to lighten up and not be so damn judgemental. ;)

I wanted to throw in that it is possible for a girl kitty to get pregnant before she is old enough to be (safely) spayed. I have seen it happen.

if I came across as mean. It was not directed at the OP, but at irresponsible people in general.

A friend of mine is getting a kitten next week. I have spent weeks trying to convince her to get a 6 month old cat from a shelter. She won't because she wants a "cute" kitten.

How much do you all wanna bet I end up with the cat in 6 months, after he tears up her brand new suede coach and nice curtains?

So if I interjected any of this into my responses, I apologize.

I'm glad to hear the Mommy cat is getting spayed.

My hats off to you for finding homes.

Years ago my husband was in the hospital. I came home from spending the day with him - only to find a box with four kittens on my doorstep. At a not particularly great time in our lives, I had the responsibility to find homes for these kittens.

You took responsibility and that is a great thing.

::yes:: :wave2:

Considering I had two cats (siblings) get pregnant at 4 months I know accidents happen. We had 13 kittens! I am sure the OP now knows not to post about this kind of thing again!

To the OP, congrats on the homes you have found so far! Good luck on the rest of them!:)

And yes, before someone lectures me, we were able to find homes for them through our vet, bless his heart! He is an angel on earth!

edited because I can't add!

Actually, many vets spay and neuter cats very young now. The recovery is quicker, but I don't know if there is a down side. When we adopted brother/sister kittens, we did have the operation on one of them, but delayed the other operation a little while (health reasons, but I sure can't remember what the issue was).

Tigger&Belle (the name of my kitties)
