I hate....

What I found works best is a sonic deterrent. It looks like a bird house when it detects barking it emits an unpleasant sound that only dogs can hear. It has worked miracles! I've not had any other complaints since. When we go to visit my parents (where tehy don't have a barking deterrent) my dogs almost never bark and their dog barks his head off. I can't say enough good things about it.

Where did you get this? Like a Petco store? I want to try one!!

My next door neighbor has a collie and barks all day long. It gets annoying after a while. I know of two neighbors who rang their bell.

I also recently called their house - I wanted to make sure that the mom (in her late 80s) was okay - it's mother and daughter. He went on and on and I thought to myself, you never know, she could be inside lying on the floor and I told her that.

My dog loves to stay out in the front and only barks if someone comes by but as soon as I leave her in the back for two seconds alone, he barks to come in. Sometimes I wait by the door - because I take him right in.

I would love more information about this bird house thing for outside.

There is a natural deterrant for barking dogs that our vet suggested when we got our dog as a puppy.

It is a spray collar they wear around their neck and when they bark it poofs a puff of a citronella smelling spray in front of their face. Doesn't harm them, it's all natural and does nothing but deter them from barking.

He said he's used it on several dogs and recommends this highly.

2 of our neighbors have used similar products on their dogs (lab, and yorkie) and they worked marvelously!

Worth a try. :goodvibes

At book club last month the host used one on her dog (a super sweet, very quiet big dog--sorry I don't know breeds at all). Everyone was looking at it and discussing how well she says it worked (dog no longer needs to wear it). A few of the braver (or more stupid?) ladies put it up to their own throats and "barked" to see how it works:lmao: The spray was a fine mist (you could see it and faintly smell it so you know it is working). The dog looked at them like they wer idiots for getting themselvse spraye:upsidedow Anyway, one thing this lady liked about it is the spray is safe for the dog and for the young kids she has to be around.

I have found an AMAZING barking solution. I have two dogs that used to bark a lot but would stop when I said something. Unbeknownst to me they were barking while I was away and I was told by the landlord if I did not stop the barking they would have to go. I tried the spray collar but there was no way to tell if the spray went in. Tried a shock collar but it made a sore on Mattie's throat.

OP: It is designed for outdoor use (I couldn't wait for the time to ship the indoor one) and can detect barking up to 50 ft. I would put it at your fenceline and that should shut the little doggie up.

I don't care if it's during the day, a constantly barking dog can be a real nuisance and just about drive you nuts. The OP has a right to enjoy her house/yard without this constant nuisance.

Let me add my 2 cents on this “birdhouse”. My neighbor has one aimed at my dogs (not theirs who runs loose but mine who are nicely fenced in). My oldest cannot hear very well. This he can here and now is trained to run to the gate and bark. The 2nd does not mind it at all and it does nothing to stop her if she wants to bark. The baby will not go to the gate and has difficulty hearing now. These are not to be used around puppies. Did they read that? Of course not! Now I have an injured pooch who has other medical conditions which may or may not have also been caused by this and over $4000 in vet bills. My Attny wants to not only go after my neighbors but also the manufacture of the unit. I do not want ww3 at my home.

Talk to your neighbors. It is so ignorant to try to cause harm to an innocent animal.

You know, rights are funny things. One person's rights stop right at the point where another's starts. A person's right not to be bothered by barking dogs or loud music or whatever stops at the point where such irritations are allowed by law (code, ordinance, covenant, whatever). In most locales, this means that the loudness must go away at night, but is acceptable during the day.

I'm so sorry this happened to you. I talked with neighbors on both sides of me and they are fine with our dogs barking, but as long as we call them in if it's consistant. One of my neighbors also has a dog and they bring theirs in when she barks. No wars, but an understanding.

Both of my neighbors let me know if they are having a party at their house, so I can have my dogs inside or take them for a walk so they won't be disturbed by barking. We just want to live peacefully and enjoy our pets at the same time. I'm so glad we have great neighbors who can openly discuss this.

I got it at Wal Mart. My dogs have never had a problem with it and I don't plan to use it at our new house. I like it a lot better than the spray/shock collars.

We have a huge barking dog problem in our neighborhood. And just when someone with a bad dog moves out someone else moves in.

We have new (less than a week) neighbors two doors down with a little yappy thing that woke me up this morning at 6:30. It is summer and I was planning to sleep in. This is with my windows shut (and I have dual pane windows, so that is not the issue). The neighbor between us has already talked to them and got nowhere so she is getting the HOA involved. I plan to complain as well.

Oh, thanks for the suggestions. We have two poms, and while not overly yappy the younger one just has to announce her presence in the mornings. She sleeps in her crate, and as soon as she hears our alarm go off her own alarm goes off until we get downstairs and get her outside. We are having a baby this fall and have tried about everything else to get her to stop! We will have to try these! Where can they be purchased?

Good luck, we were told by both the police department and the HOA where we live that between 10PM and 6AM they will take a noise complaint, but when people start getting up for work it is natural for them to let their dogs out. Unless the dog barks constantly for an extended period of time there is nothing they can/will do about it. It was up to us to talk to the neighbors in that case.

They do make an indoor one which detects a pattern of barking (rather than just a loud, sharp noise). I would have used that one except Wal Mart didn't have it and I didn't have the luxury of time if I wanted to keep my dogs. They startle when it goes off, and one does seem to be more reluctant to go in the hallway. (It's where they stay when I am gone, which is the only time it is turned on.) I would go with the indoor one if you can. The one I used is not technically for indoor use, but I like I said, I really didn't have a lot of choice and it works with no ill effects.

I believe you can get the nose sprayer at Petco or PetSmart. If you don't have one near you I'm sure you can find something online that does the same thing. Good luck! :)
