I hate the way migraines makes me think so slooowly.

I hate the way I forget words.

I hate the way my tongue feels when I'm trying to get the words I do remember to come out right.

I hate the way everyone's voices kind of go all blurry on the phone and it's so hard to understand what they're saying.

I hate having to ask people to spell things, or say them again slowly.

I hate feeling stupid!

There, just wanted to get that out of my system!

I've got a migraine today, in case it's not obvious. :headache:

On the plus side I just sent my husband over to the store to get me some Cadbury Cream Eggs. Cadbury Cream Eggs are good medicine when your brain is melting out your ears. :thumbsup2

What do you take for relief?

I do the Excedrin migraine, and depending on how early I can catch it and where I am at. I take a cool washrag, and lie down, because sight and sound make me want to barf.

hope you feel better soon

Sight and sound and SCENT make me want to barf but this is exactly what I do as well.

Extra Strength Ibuprofen - except I accidentally took 800mg this morning, instead of the 400 I was supposed to take... I think it helped. Maybe.

I'm lucky - I don't get the whole nausea thing. Not too much pain, either. But I'm hiding in the dark right now, because light hurts. Noise hurts. The cat's next to me purring, and I swear he sounds like a buzzsaw.

I've tried glaring at him, but that just makes him purr louder. Stupid cat.

Oh... now the dog's barking..

Have you thought about seeing a neurologist? I've had migraines since I was little and my doctor finally sent me to one a few years ago. It was incredible the amount of insight they were able to give me there. I found out that there are many different kinds of migraines and not all of them are treated the same way. Maybe you could find some relief.

Just a suggestion, but yes I feel your pain, I hate them and the way they can ruin your entire day, or even couple of days. Not fun at all. Hope you're feeling better!

I feel your pain too. I have a mild headache today and trying to prevent it form blowing up. I went to my DDs basketball game this morning. Talk about noise........about 14 courts playing at one time, not to mention repeated flashes from camera flashes going off randomly. My DH didn't even notice the flashes. I,on the other hand, needed my sunglasses to dim some of the stimuli!
I take 800mg ibuprofen as recommended by my neuro many years ago. It can usually keep me from getting to the nausea stage.

OP I feel your pain! Migarines are terrible. For me noise helps-I think it makes me focus on something else. I have the type the side of my face goes numb and I can hardly talk straight it feels like forever to get the words formed. What helps me is coffee strong coffee, and excedrine migraine. I try to catch them in time but sometimes they hit so fast. It also helps when I have someone squeeze the back of my neck. I will get after the migraine headaches (a low throbbing pain)

Yep, migraines suck. I had one a couple of weeks ago that was the worst migraine I've ever had - it was like me whole body was working in slow motion. I was trying to pick up a glass for water to take Excedrin and I kept dropping the glass because I couldn't grip it properly. DH came home to find me dripping wet with an ice pack strapped to my head (tied on with one of his ties :rolleyes1)

It lasted three days and my eyes and neck hurt for about another two weeks. When I went to the Dr and told him about how bad the last migraine was, he told me "yep, it sounds like you suffer from migraines." Right. Great. Thanks.

I feel your pain, I get the migraines with aura, where my vision goes completly crazy. The first few times I had them I thought I was having a stroke, after two visits to the ER, they finally convinced me it was migraines. Scary stuff.

Oh, Magpie--you could be my migraine twin! You put it exactly like I have never been able to explain to anyone before. I get all that plus the nausea and I can't look at or smell anything. I have to be in total darkness, cold and literally pack my whole head in ice packs. I will have to try to Cadbury Eggs--sometimes Zomig and Phenergan just aren't enough!

I so feel for you I have one right now. If I don't catch mine quick enough they turn into vertigo attacks.. (which is happening right now) I can't lay down or the room spins worse.. Darn real life got in my way today of catching it... Now I just wish someone would put me out of my misery.. :headache: Good Luck to you! :goodvibes

yep I hate the aura's , It is scary thinking your having a stroke

I suffer from migraines and get relief from Imitrex. The shot works so quickly (don't even bother with the pills - if you absolutely can't give yourself a quick shot with a stat pen try the nasal spray). Check with your doctor to see if it is right for you. It is a vasoconstrictor so not for those with heart issues.

Thanks, everyone!

Reading all your stories and knowing I'm not alone in this really helped improve my mood. :goodvibes

FWIW, I also get auras, which I kind of enjoy just because they're so freaky. I usually get a lightning bolt that extends jaggedly across my vision. It's nice, in a way, to have a little warning that a migraine is on the way. But if I got an aura this time, I think I slept through it, as the migraine was already well underway by the time I woke up this morning.

I'm also relieved to know that I didn't do anything wrong by taking 800mg of Ibu, instead of the 400 recommended on the bottle.

Oh... one more symptom (which I'm only noticing because I'm typing right now). Do any of you get tingly fingertips? Like your hands are falling asleep?

I so wish Imitrex worked for me. I went a couple of weeks ago and got one and it helped for about 20 minutes and it was back with avengence...

I get the tingly fingertips too with a migraine. Usually worse in the hand on the same side as the migraine. I've had two migraine in the past week and a half and now have vertigo. If the pain from the migraine is really bad, ask your dr for some strong pain killers. Like Lortab or something. It will make you really sleepy, but ive found it's the only thing that helps with the actual pain. And I have Fenergren for the nausea and Antivert for the dizziness. Just got those and they do help too. Hope you find some relief - migraines do suck!

I feel for you. I also have migraines. I get very nauseated with mine. I get at least two a month sometimes more. Here recently I've been taking 800mg of Ibuprofen as well.

Hope you feel well soon.

Thanks! :goodvibes This particular migraine hit back on the 12th, so I'm well over that one now. I had a wee little one yesterday - I would have called it just a bad headache, except I noticed that I was smelling dust in the bookstore and in the second hand store. And then gasoline on the street. I put 2 and 2 together and realized hypersensitivity to smell, feeling distracted, and headache... oh, it's a migraine.

It's encouraging to hear how many other people also deal with them! Also the tips for dealing with them are helpful, too.
