Sorry, but people need to have more individuality.
Most of the people who wear expensive clothing such as Hollister only wear it because they feel cool or accepted.
Same goes with liking certain music, like Taylor Swift.

Another example is the sports teams in my area. Everyone for the most part likes the Giants, but I choose to not conform and I like the Saints and Dolphins as a result.

Where's your individuality, people??

I wear Hollister and AE because I think their clothes are cute, not because it makes me fit in...
I listen to Taylor Swift not because other people do, but because her music is great and I can relate to it...
I support the Philadelphia Eagles, Phillies, Sixers and Flyers because I support my hometown, and they represent my hometown...

What's so wrong with that?

Not everybody that wears Hollister wears it because it looks good. I don't wear it because I think it looks bad and is overpriced.
Not everybody that listens to popular artists listen to them because they actually LIKE their music. I look for less popular artists and I like them more.
I dont have a problem with liking hometown teams, but what's so wrong with liking other teams?

Sometimes it drives me nuts when someone tries so hard to be original. This kid I go to school with not only is he a pain in the butt to begin with, but he finds it so necessarh to look for the most obscure bands and movies.
It drives me nuts, because he doesn't say 'I hate (let's say Rihanna)' he just goes 'I hate all mainstream'
Really doubt that, there's probably something he likes there okay.

srsly drives me nuts.

hm, I don't really care what someone is wearing or listening to.
Although I do think some trends are rather dumb, I won't judge your personality for wearing something or listening to something.

i listen to bands people at my school have never heard of.
i like the bears for football and i live in new jersey.
i wear clothes from stores that "nobody" wears.
i like to be different :)
but people are always going to do things to fit in, even if they hate it.

Oh I agree with that. I think it's so phony.

i hate to be the one to break this to you, but...
by rejecting the status quo, you're conforming to an entire different group: those that like to "not conform."

be who you are. if it matches other people, thats cool. if it doesn't, thats cool too. don't avoid conforming just to make some weak statement. do it because its what you want, and the word "conformity" is the furthest thought from your mind.

just be who you are...why does that have to be so hard?

you shouldn't give a rat's *** what other people do, you're not them. let them live their lives.

QFE.

I wear Aero and AE. Why? Because I LIKE the clothes, not because it'll help me fit in. In 20 years, is fitting in in high school really going to matter?

I support Notre Dame, like many in my area do. Why? Because I LIKE the teams.

If the things you like fit in with the "in crowd" that's great. If it doesn't, that's great too. Liking things that others like is not an originality problem, it's a preference problem.

I wear Hollister because I like their clothes and they fit me right. Like no one in my school even wears hollister so to them I am different.
I still love the Jonas Brothers even though me and my BFFL get mocked for it. *SHRUG*

dude, forget twenty years. after graduation, fitting in doesn't matter. none of that stuff carries over to college or the real world.

but. i'm a senior, and fitting in doesn't matter to me now. i do what makes me happy, and i hang out with people i like. i fit in with them, thats all that matters to me. (and i don't have to like xyz, wear abc, and do 123 to fit in with my friends...)

this whole argument is way back in middle school. :confused3

Oh, I know. 20 was just the first number that rolled off my head.

Well alot of people are.

I know girls/guys who wear AF, Aero, ect to be 'cool', which I think is lame because brand names do NOT define who you are.

Yeah, there are some who cant get away from being like another. Its their choice, whether you like it or not.

ETA: there are college students who still do it. Especially the freshman. they all have 'pink' or 'juicy' across their butt. So dumb. But they end up growing up and getting out of that.

I wore AE and Hollister in high school because I liked it. There were some people who wore it because they thought they were the coolest people ever. Those were the same people who all had bleach blonde hair and orange skin. THEY were all the same, not the ones who wore the clothes. I personally don't buy anymore clothes from those places because they just don't appeal to me anymore. I still have my clothes and wear them but I just don't shop there anymore.

Then there are those who try so hard to be different they just end up into their own category of being the same as everyone else in their group.

Just be yourself.

I wear some Aeropostale stuff because I like how comfortable it is. My high school isn't like most. It's an itty bitty school, and everyone knows everybody. Heck, I'm the only one with no cousins or other relations, bar siblings.

I've liked Taylor Swift since her debut back in summer 2006, I ain't planning on stopping now. I don't like stuff because it's popular. I will try the popular stuff out and see how I like it, for myself. It's how I was introduced to Jason Mraz and Colbie Caillat. (Which are some of my favourite singers now, by the way.)

We are all different. I like being myself. I am different from Hilary, Shelby, Sonya, Alyssa, and everyone else. (Sorry about the namedrop y'all, just the first names I pulled out of my head.) I am different. I am happy to be different.

Live the Life.

Heck yeah, you're a boy! I'm not!
