Yesterday I thought that I noticed my van ('99 Grand Caravan) running a little funny. Maybe rough. Maybe as if it did not have quite enough power? Then last night I had to go out and when I got in the van the Check Engine light came on. I had to meet some friends who I share a ride with to choir. I was supposed to be the driver, but I asked my friend to drive since my van was giving me trouble. When I went to go home last night, the Check Engine light came on again and THEN I noticed that my speedometer and odometer were not working.
I called the dealership this AM ( the van is still covered on an extended warranty) and they cannot take it until tomorrow.
THEN I get a call tonight from DH who was on his way home from work. He said "You are not going to be happy - I think that my transmission is going. I cannot get the van to shift gears." GRRRRRR Bill's van is a '93 Grand Caravan with 106K miles on it. We have been waiting to have to replace the transmission. But not NOW!!!

Did I say that I HATE cars!!! A necessary evil IMHO!!!

BethR- Have the spark plugs been changed in your van??
My '98 Grand Caravan was acting up until DH changed out the spark plugs to some really high quality ones. If this is the case for you, it won't be covered under your warranty.

Actually Bunchkin, we have NOT done the spark plugs and there are 66K miles on this van - so that could very well be part of the problem. But there is still the speedometer and odometer thing. :( And the guy at the dealership asked me if my transmission was slipping and I am going to have that looked at as well.

My car was running rough & all it needed was to have the fuel injectors cleaned...
If your van is under warranty they should of taken it in immediately and gave you a rental..
Hope all turns out okay..

Just spent an arm and a leg fixing the brakes and getting new tires on our car!!

I hope all works out and your "cars" start behaving again.

Good Luck!

Steve

I don't know why, Steve, but I always call our vans "cars." :)
Well, took my van to the dealership today and it was a "Speed Sensor." It caused my speedometer, odometer, the transmission not to work and my check engine light to come on. It was covered under the warranty with a $50 deductible.

Wish that we would have such like with Bill's van. His brother (who IS a mechanic) told him to try and change the transmission fluid and filter. This will be interesting - DH is NOT a mechanic.
If that does not work, then it is a new transmission. The last time that we had to replace a transmission, it was $1200. Ack!!!

I'm glad your van was an easy fix. Sorry to hear about that transmission thing, so expensive :(
