As I sit here crying, I feel your pain. My mil has alzheimers and now my fil does too. He started getting symptoms 2 months ago and has changed from a vibrant man to someone who talks gibberish, wanders around, unkempt, mismanaging money, etc.
Just today we had to make some difficult decisions. Tomorrow we take away his car keys and have to go there 2 times a day, for meals and meds. They will try to go out for food. Hopefully we will be able to be there for them both. But we know the road to a nursing home is as short as our driveway. We will be checking out homes this week.
Does anyone know anything about Magic kitchen? They ship precooked food for a week to your door. It might be something for my inlaws. Just starting to look around. Does anyone deal with meals on wheels?
When/who decides on the move to a nursing home? Us or their doc? So many questions, so little time.
My inlaws are like my own parents, they were there when my mom died at 43 and my dad at 50, They stepped up and have been there for me. Now I want to do the same for them. We are blessed that they saved and saved for years. I am sure the money will go quickly but at least its a start.
