And I was told my doctor should get the results in about 7-10 days. Is this a good sign? The doctor told me if they see something , they would tell me the doctor would get the results within a day.
For those of you who have had one, how long did it take to get the results? BTW, it hurts you know?? Good thing it's only once a year!

Feel bad for my DW, she got roped into a study and she has to get 2 everytime she goes, regular and the new digital

Usually within a week or two you get results. Nothing to worry about, Olga.

I don't find it that uncomfortable, but I know some women do.

Usually a couple of weeks.

I have a theory that if males had to do this someone would invent a less painful way to get this done. :)

Just wanted to add that I am happy you had your mammogram done, Olga. That's great. And my best for negative results.

Hoping everything turns out for the best Olga..

the technician will usually call somebody to look at the filmswhile you are still there if they see anything at all that looks suspicious. You should get a letter in about a week telling you your mammogram was normal :D

They did make me wait to look at the film and make sure the takes were good, they told me they were all fine and just that I would get a letter within 7-10 days.

I would like to see men having one of this on you know what part of the body , they would soon find a way to do it without pain, LOL.

If there's a problem, they usually call your doctor the same day or the next day. (At least in my case they did.) If you don't get any calls very soon, that's good!

I had my first mammogram yesterday, and I was jumping out of my skin every time the phone rang afterwards. I'm completely neurotic, I know. I went through today with no phone calls, so I feel pretty good now. The test itself was no big deal to me - it'sjust the wait for the results that's nervewracking.

I saw my gyn this morning, everything was fine, she gave me the paper to get my yearly mammo. I asked for a diagnostic prescription because the last 2 years I got called back for ultrasounds for cystic disease, had to wait 3 nervewracking weeks to go back. It also means another afternoon off work. A diagnostic prescription means a doctor will read it right away and do any extra tests right there. I had a screening prescription the other years, which means a doctor does not look at it right away, most times a doctor isn't even there at the time. Both my PCP and gyn said last year after I had the ultrasound to ask for a diagnostic this year. So I call the mammo place to make the appt and they gave me a hard time since I don't have any current symptoms like a lump! I said I have the note from my doctor! They just wanted to schedule me for a screening. Finally they gave me a diagnostic appt for Sept 16, which is right after the date I had it last year.

Good Luck on your results!

I'm glad you went and I'm hoping for some good news. :)

I had a mammogram last month. They told me I'd get a letter in 7 days and I got my letter on the 7th day. It took me almost 2 weeks to stop hurting. It was my first one, and I was terrified to death about getting it done-even the tech that did the mammogram was concerned because I'm too young to have one done (we don't know why my dr sent me to get one:confused: ). Mine came back normal.:)

Good luck, and I hope you stop hurting soon.:)

My first one took a week, but that was because I went to the mobile van & I ended up getting recalled as there were some abnormalities.

When I went for the recall I got the results in about 15 mins, on the spot.

Doesn't hurt that much. Depends on who does it & how good they are at what they do;)

All the best.

You sound exactly like me!!! Every year I get the mammo and the ultrasound. My GYN always seems to feel a cyst that is never found with either test. It's even more nerve racking because my sister has advanced breast cancer (not genetically passed on, and didn't show up on a mammo either.), so they screen me differently.

I would like to learn more about the digital mammography that is out now. Maybe it is more accurate.

Olga,
Good luck! I'm sure the results will be normal. ;)

Yikes Olga!! It hurts? I have never had one, and am not looking forward to my first one :( I have no clue on how long it takes, but want to wish you good results. Please let us know, ok?

Thank you everyone for the re-assurances. I had it done , not for any problem or suspicion, I had it done as a routine test, I'm 39 right now and never had one done , my doctor wants me to start including that in my physical yearly , and I'm not going to say no. I just hate though how some insurance companies decide not to pay for them until you are a certain age, who are they to determine that? I have seen people as young as in their late teens get breast cancer, IMO every woman should get one done yearly.
I also wonder how the digital mammography works.
