I guess the cast of Jersey Shore isn't white enough for A & F

Abercrombie & Fitch (I think they own Hollister too) has actually released the following particularly offensive request aimed at the a the Jersey Shore cast. So I've been to A & F and the best words I can use to describe their stuff is painfully white & upper middle class. It's in everything, from the kids who work there who seem hand picked to have a very Angelo all American look to the partially nude hairless pictures of very northern European models in all the ads, on the bags and on the walls of the place. I've never been a fan of the whole preppie thing but whatever, sometimes my kids would ask for something and sometimes I'd get it.

SO I used to be a kid who would flock to the Jersey Shore during the summers and the one thing most kids there DID NOT have in common was being Northern European upper middle class... THOSE kids did the Hamptons.

So imagine my surprise while I was getting ready to take the kids shopping for back to school stuff today,(we start 8/29) and just happened to sit down to look at the news to and realized we were all uninvited to buy or even wear their stuff. Nice, I guess I won't trouble them with my money then. As I recall American Eagle is in the same mall. :snooty:

Honestly, I took it too mean that they don't want people thinking A & F endorses those so-called celebrities. The few times I've seen them on TV, I've found them to be extremely annoying and offensive in their speech and actions. I wouldn't want to be associated with them either.

So which cast member are you?

this..

FWIW...I love Jersey Shore. Guilty Pleasure.

this... I thought the stance that A&F took was so funny.. I can't even remember another brand basicly saying I'll pay you not to wear our stuff... too funny to me.

First, why are you bringing race into this? That's ridiculous. Race-baiting on the Dis is a new low.

Second, I find it pretty amusing that a retailer who received criticism for ads bordering on porn and markets thongs to 10 year olds is offended by the cast of the Jersey Shore.

Jersey Shore embarrasses Italians

Agree.

A&F is smart. The Jersey Shore peeps are trashy and I'd be disappointed if A&F endorsed them. Race has nothing to do with it.

I don't think it has anything to do with them not being "white enough." I only skimmed the article but I see no mention in there of race or skin color. Did I miss it?

Jersey Shore is a show about hard partying, obnoxious, cat fighting, worthless and mostly offensive bums. It isn't surprising that any brand - and especially one like A&F that tries to position themselves as high end - would not want to be associated with that show.

Those Jersey Shore people, (the show) are scum. It has nothing to do with color, race sex or otherwise, I wouldn't want any of them wearing my clothes either. I wouldn't want to be associated with them, I don't understand why this upsets you, have you ever seen the show?

If A & F were showcasing Italians or any other ethnicity it wouldn't be offensive, but they don't, so it is... A & F is not Fendi, Gucci or Versace

PS- they aren't scum, they are grown adults living a partying lifestyle just like people of all sorts of different ethnicities. I don't ever remember Rappers ever being uninvited to wear designer stuff, could you even imagine such a thing? What about a gay couple being asked such a thing, yeah right.

Yeah, I can honestly see why they don't want to be associated with the morons on Jersey Shore.

How were you uninvited? Are you on the cast of Jersey Shore?
Snookie? Is that you??? Are you wearing your slipper sneakers and stalking us Disers?
:wave2:

By the way, my niece has been in Hollister ads, and she's an ethnic-looking half-African American, and my son was in an A&F ad and he's half Filipino, so they don;t just cater to the white bread Anglo set. I'll post their pics, they won't mind.

What exactly do you mean by "showcasing?"

A&F has certainly employed ethnic models for their clothing lines. :confused3

You are bringing race into something that has NOTHING to do with race, but has everything to do with behavior. And yep, they are SCUM. They only people that I have ever heard of not thinking this is well you, and the cast members themselves.

Wow, did you hurt yourself with that leap?

:lmao: no kidding!

race has nothing to do with it - their actions have everything to do with it!!!!

If they didn't act like complete losers and offensive morons, then A&F would be happy for the free publicity - no matter what their skin color!!!!! I wouldn't want to be associated with them either - and that is based solely on how they act.
