I got Zogby polled earlier today. It was fun to mess with them:

Who did you vote for in 2000? Gore
How likely are you to vote this year? Extrememly likely
Who will you vote for? Bush
How do you feel about Bush? Very positive
How do you feel about Kerry? somewhat negative
General Direction of the Nation? Great
Overall performance of Bush? Extremely bad
(I was then asked to confirm I wa still voting for him) YES!

Rep, Dem or non-affiliated? Libertarian
Income? $50K (I'm trying to get into the Kerry voter target class)
Union workers in your home? Yes
Religion? Catholic
Married? Yes
Race? Hispanic
Live in city of >100K <100K? Rural or Suburbs? City <100K

Would that everyone would lie to the pollsters so the politicians could actually tell us what they really think.

Cool...I've never known anyone to get polled.

So how many outright lies are in there? :jester:

I was polled by Kerry's people and I swear the pollster got mad at me, she must have been getting a run on Republicans!

I kid you not here is how it went:

"I am calling from Victory 2004, future president John Kerry's campaign and would like to know if you plan on voting?"

"Absolutely"

"May I ask which candidate you will be voting for? You don't have to answer."

"Oh I would be happy to. I am voting for President George W Bush."

"CLICK!"

Yes it appeared she did emphatically slam the phone down in my ear!

Uh, I'm doing phone work for the campaign and there are
no scripts that even begin with that statement. Nothing close.
They aren't even doing that type of calling anymore. No blind
canvassing will be done until the last week of the campaign
now and that will simply be to remind people to vote and ask
for their support. "Young Democrats" are door to door canvassing but only to democrats or those identified as independents. There are pollsters calling asking if one is voting,
what party affiliation and the voter's race. That's about it for
the democrats. Wonder who called you?

I would love to be polled.

The closest I ever came was a telemarketer who called me with the come-on = "you may have just won a new CAR!!!!"

I would answer a couple of questions and then demand to know what COLOR it was - she couldn't answer and would try to get back on the questions and I kept arguing with her about the color combinations that I would accept and those that I would not accept until she hung up on me = took about three minutes all in all.

It was fun.

I do phone work for the Kerry campaign also, and that is how we were told to conduct the poll.

:p I've always wanted to do that.

Shortbun or others, I've wondered about polls in this respect.

1) I think I remember that polls, etc. are exempt from the do no call list. Is that right?
2) Like my tag fairy noticed, we don't have a regular phone...just cell phones. We've done this for about 2 years. So far we don't get ANY kind of calls we don't ask for (I hoping they never create a "directory"). So I would assume that folks that don't have a phone in the traditional sense don't get polled. It might not matter this time around, but I'll bet it will in the future.

I would also assume that some small percentage of people polled "play" with the polster somewhat. Is that factored in to the methodology? Or should we change to "margin of error" definition ;) .

I wanna be polled...... <--- We need a stomping foot smilie!

I also want to be a Nielson family.

Is there any way to increase our chances? I take online surveys all the time unfortunately I think that just increases my junk email.
