I grew up in Mass. and have never heard of it.

I live in Chicago and the sales tax in Cook County is 9%, which would mean if I doubled the tax to estimate the tip, I'd be leaving 18%.

That said, I leave 20%. To me, that is the standard and I don't deviate much. Bad service, maybe I'll drop it down to 18%. Great service, I'll hike it up to 22%.

Ok so maybe it's not your location or county or state for your method of tip caculating. But someone taught you or you found a way from somewhere or someone to calculate the tip.. It seems there are alot of different ways to do this , double, triple tax... 2 $ for every ten, 15 % before tax, after tax.. flipping a coin or rolling dice, who knows.. everyone was taught something and to them that is acceptable. Weather the outcome amount is 0% or 200%... What people don't like is someone telling them there way is wrong or not enough or too much. When someone is going on vacation these feeling should not be there. Before going on vacation these feeling should not be there. I know there are many reasons and threads about these issues. SO i'm going back to my last line of my first post of this thread. I have my tip amounts set and I'm not going to worry and I now believe no one else should and lets all have a nice Vacation.. :}
