I just got off the phone with CRO and was offered GF Lagoon view for $185 (including tax) per night. Or I can have BC (possibly waterview) for $140 including tax.

I chose GF LV because it sounds like a really good deal and we have never stayed there before.

I have 10 days to change the resort, do you think I made the right decision? Is GF LV worth the extra $$? The CM thinks it is a rate that I will never see again. Is that right? I know $140 is a GREAT rate for BC since we stayed at those resorts before.

Did I make the right decision?

We are going for the Food & Wine Festival and MNNSH. That was why originally we picked BC for SAB and F&W.

Also, if we do choose GF LV, what are the rooms that are the most desirable ones?

Thanks you SO MUCH for any advice you can provide.:D

You probably won't see those rates again for either hotel.

That said if I was going mainly for the food and wine festival I would stay at Beach Club. I stayed at GF and found the monorail to Epcot a pain. Take monorail to TTC, transfer to Epcot and there was all that stopping at other resorts.

Now I have to admit I am biased. My stay at the GF was decidedly un-magical. I know I am in a minority there, but....I would not got back even for your great rate.

OMG, that rate is absolutely AWESOME! Wow, I'm telling you, you better hold on to that!!!!!!! It is an AMAZING price for this GRAND resort, it truly is a rate you'll NEVER see again! Go, have a great time, and enjoy this wonderful resort! I really wish I could get it for that price!!! I'm so jealous!

You got a *great* rate for the GF. I think if you ever wanted to stay there you should jump at the chance. It looks like you go to the BC a lot and in this case the extra $45 per night would be worth it to have a lagoon view. Let me put it this way ... I have no (zero, zilch) interest in staying at the GF and *I* would take this deal :). Congratulations on your upgrade!

Great Rates at Both!

A true WIN - WIN decision. Look at both resorts and choose based on your interests!

You will enjoy either one!

Wow, that's great! I love the GF! That is definitely an amazing rate. Wish I could come, too. ;)

Considering value rate during Nov is $400 plus tax Yes that is a very, very ,very good rate, did I say very, very, very good rate.

If you are going in October it is even better as rack rate then for the Grand Floridian is $ 455 plus tax.

It would be a hard decision as I love the Grand, but being close to the Epcot area is a huge temptation.

Thank you all for the tips.

I think I will stick to GF even just for the sake of the rate I received. We are usually staying by the Epcot resort area and this will be a nice change.

From this board, there are people who love and hate every WDW resort. I decided that we would like to give GF a try and see how it turns out. It is only for 4 nights and it will be fun to be able to stay there for a different resort experience. At the very least, I can say that we finally got to stay there.:D

Thanks again!!!

While you might be going for the Food/Wine Fest, I think you should stick with GF. You cannot find a rate like that for GF lagoon view anywhere. Beach Club is great, but you can get a reduced rate for that resort much of the time anyways (not to mention its cheaper) SOak it up, $185 is a killer deal.

We stayed at the BC in 2001 & the GF in 2002. I'd definitely pay the extra for the GF...that's a great rate. As several posters have said...you may never have such an opportunity again.

Definitely take that rate for the GF!!! WOW!!!! Request Conch Key first, the views of MK are the best there. ;) Then Boca Chica for a second choice. :) You guys are going to have a great time!!!!!!!!! :) :) :)

Well, You beat me. I was thrilled we had a garden view for 199 a night in May of last year. I had it at 265 with a code, and really started to chicken out and knew I could be happy at a moderate and do two trips for that price. So, I called CRO and told them I needed to change my ressie to POR, I just felt that I didn't want to spend that much. He searched for some codes for me and couldn't bring it down anymore and then ask me to hold on a minute. He came back about 5 or 6 min later and asked me if I would stay put if they took 400 dollars of the room price for our stay (8 nights) so of course I said YES! There must have been some back room bargining going on, but I like to think of it as Disney magic! Well, when we checked in, they put us in a lagoon view in Conch Key and it was wonderful. When I had first made the ressie, I told them the day we check in was our 12 year old's birthday. More magic! On the table when we entered was a beautiful birthday cake and 4 plates on a beautifully set table. You MUST stay at GF for that price! I had met Mary Waring for mousesavers. com on the Boardwalk that week and told her about it and she said she had never heard of that happening before. I realize Disney makes more if someone is staying at the Deluxes, so it is to their benefit to keep them there. for example, in the food court area there, a little 1/2 pint of milk was $2 or $2.50, twice what I've paid at a moderate. don't pass up a stay at the Grand for that great deal, but I've been there, done that, and happy to keep trying each and every one! Magic happens!!!

Thanks again!!!

TigrLvsPool - I will put in the room request like you suggested and see what happens.

Perla - Wow, that was quite a story. I have never received any upgrades at WDW resorts, and what you had was absolutely wonderful. I have NEVER been offered to have the room rate knocked down, let along a room rate special plus the lagoon view upgrade!!!!

Told my DH that we are going to GF and he was happy. He started talking about renting a watermouse and use the boat/monorail to 'Ohana for dinner (we love this restaurant), etc.

On a side note, I am surprised to learn that with the POFQ relocation, you can get any resort you want except Comtemporary. The CM was surprised that they would even offer GF.

Thanks for everyone else's input. I never really paid attention to GF's room rate and it is nice to hear how good this rate is.

However, some people have gotten some AMAZING rates on deluxe resorts. I thought $140 for BC was good until I saw someone getting it for $116 or something. But I am happy with mine and I will just leave my ressie as is. This was supposed to be our first trip going to POFQ, never stayed at any moderates before, 3 days after I made this reservation, the news came out that the resort would be closed. I guess it was just not meant to be.

When I talked to the CM tonight, I did not expect anything and it was a nice surprise.

:D

Keep in mind that not all lagoon view rooms are castle view. In fact some have a really crappy view of the monorail track and a construction crane. Paying that rate my guess is you aren't going to have the best view in the house, unless the place is empty.

If it were me, I'd choose the BC--it's a fabulous rate, and why mess with the added transportation if you are planning on spending most of your time at Epcot?

ducklite - I had the same concern like what you said. However, I was told that the room assigner does not see the rate you pay, so it would not be an issue. I hope she is right.:D

WOW, what an excellent rate. Make sure to write a trip report when you return, I can't wait to hear all about GF! It is my dream resort, with BC being a close 2nd.

I am assuming you waited for them to call you to make your changes? I know last time, those who waited got the best deals on the deluxe resorts!

Even with an AP rate in the value season you couldn't come close to that rate (I think) The GF is a lot of fun, while your there you may want to take advantage of the the restaraunts, teas, etc there. If you have little kids I definitely recommend the pirate cruise. Half the fun of staying at a WDW resort is all of their unique activities.. We loved our stay there. We won't go back because there are so many other WDW resorts we want to try.

eeyone0062 - I actually called them just wondering what my options were. I was one of the first ones who got an upgrade to BC for $140 before the info was put into the system. I was very happy with the rate already. But just on a whim, I was wondering if I could pay extra to get waterview or concierge, so I called and I was convinced by the CM to make the change to GF because she just could not believe GF was even offered to start with and the low rate:D

deb305 - I would love to have my then 5-year-old to take the pirate cruise. She is a tom boy and would love it. But she would not go alone, so we have to wait until her baby sister is older so they can go together. Thanks for the tips. We ate at Citrico's once and it was just a little too formal for us with 2 little kids, the service and was excellent though. For the price, I prefer California Grill.

I think we will try 1900 Park this time and just take our time enjoying the resort. Thanks:D
