My friends and I visited Universal Studios from July 29-August 2. We purchased the WWOHP package and it was definitely worth it. We stayed offsite at the Holiday Inn directly across from Universal. This allowed us to walk to the park everyday. The walk was only 10 minutes each way. The hotel was going through renovations but we had zero problems with it. It was clean, the staff was great and the renovations did not get in the way of our hotel experience.
We spent 3 days at the parks. Friday and Sunday we were in Islands of Adventure and we spent Saturday in Universal. Thanks to the WWOHP package we were able to get into the parks an hours early. And thanks to disboards we knew that the really started letting people in at 7:30. It was awesome. We got everything done within a few hours. And even outside of the WWOHP the lines were not long. I think the most we waited was 30-45 minutes. Especially Saturday in Universal Studios, I guess everyone was in Islands because the lines at Universal were ridiculously short.
Now on to Ollivanders.
On Sunday we were let into the parks at 7:30 and we went straight for Ollivanders. It was a really good plan because we only had to wait 10 minutes to get into the shop. When we walked into the shop I stood in the front, almost directly in front of the wandmaker. I suppose that’s why I got chosen. It probably also helped that I was smiling and looked really excited to be there. I should also add that I am 21. I’ve been told that I look younger but still I definitely do not look like a child so I was surprised when I was chosen. It was the best experience I had in HP world, especially when the lights and wind and music came on.
Anyway I just want to share my story to give other young adults who grew up reading the books some hope that they too will be chosen in Ollivanders.
Some other notes about the park: I tried the traditional English breakfast and it was not very good. I suggest getting the pancake breakfast or the American breakfast. I absolutely loved butterbeer, had 4 mugs of it. Pumpkin juice is amazing too, it tastes like pie. Its better from the bottle than from the tap though. The cauldron cakes are tasty as is the apple cider. I tried a sip of my friends hogs head brew but beer is not my thing so I did not enjoy it.
I wish I could have tried fudge flies but they were out of stock and I also did not get to taste treacle fudge.
Overall it was a great trip and I think even if you like Harry Potter a little bit, you will enjoy this park.
