He left a message on my machine on Monday asking if I'd like to help out with the Halloween party. Its my DS's class, 2nd grade. (I would love to be there, but if he does not want me there I don't want to take the time from work and not have it for later) Leaves his number etc. I've called him back 4 times and he has not returned my call!!!!

I don't know what to do, if he wants me to help at school I have to juggle my work schedule and let them know I will need Friday afternoon off. If he wants me to send in treats that is not such a big deal but I'm thinking its just a little rude to assume that I can just be there.

Am I wrong? :confused3

Trish,
Does he have an answering machine that you can leave a message? If so, I would call again and ask what he needs you to do.

Tell him that you would be more than happy to go to school and help out, but you need advance warning to arrange your work schedule.

If he doesn't respond, I would contact the teacher -- sometimes they light fires under the Room Parents butts and get the needed results. :)

It makes me smile to see that there is a homeroom DAD!

I'm just curious...why is the Halloween party on Friday? Are schools closed for you on Monday, the 31st?

DH has been the homeroom dad 4 times now (different kids), although I have been the homeroom mom at the same time. :goodvibes I must say, the kids love having a dad around.

Our school is also having their parade/parties on Friday. They said that it will reduce the "Sugar shock and disruption" for the beginning of the following week....I don't know how, since Monday actually is Halloween, and the kids will be trick or treating that night. IMO, they are just setting themselves up for 2 lost days of work!

Back to your originally scheduled topic.

Exactly. Which is why at my school (I'm a teacher) we always have the Halloween parade & class parties on Halloween day if it's a school day. The kids are always too excited on a party day to focus on work. No need to spread the Halloween excitement & lost teaching time out over 2 days.
