I give up trying to get the kids flu shots !!!

Thank you for your posts and links, DancingBear. You are helping to dispel some of the misinformation going around on a couple of H1N1 threads right now. :thumbsup2

There are no clinics scheduled in Monroe County anymore due to the shortage of vaccine and this is regular seasonal influenza not H1N1. Besides the kids do not like shots and having a complete stranger give it to them is not very nice so I wanted the Doctor's office to give it to them. I know that Child Health Plus is not a bad system, what I upset about is that I am denied vaccine that they have because I am not on that program. I paid my taxes too and fund the program. Really it should be first come first served regardless of the insurance program.

I would definetely check around. The lack of or refusal of shots is a choice made by the drs. office, not mandated from the state. There is a shortage at times, but your insurance would be accepted at many places that are offering the shots.. grocery stores, pharmacies, health clinics, etc. Is it inconvenient to go someplace other than your pediatrician, to some people yes. Is is impossible to make some calls and find out where they are being given, NO. And just for the record, I pay more for my children on Child Health Plus, than I do for my husband at his job. His employer only offers health care for the employee, as is his choice.

Sorry wrong link, going back to find it....

While I look for the link the Kodak Theatre on Ridge is giving flu shots tomorrow by appt only from 8am-12noon. The whole area is in short demand, but they are out there. It just takes time to find them. I know it is frustrating.

Tinker n Fun,

I just went looking up the information and found this on the Am News station dated today October 23:
Meanwhile, the Genesee County Health Department was announced that they are canceling their Monday Clinic at Batavia Downs for the regular seasonal flu shots. The County Health Department says they have exhausted their supply of the regular flu vaccine and that another clinic will be scheduled as soon as more vaccine is received. This DOES NOT affect the Nasal Spray form of the H1N1 vaccine that we talked about yesterday. That clinic is still set for Wednesday at County Building Number Two on West Main Street Road.

So they too do not seem to have seasonal influenza shots. Thank you for attempting to locate some, but like I said I will continue to call the peds next week.

Here's the problem with the bolded bit:

If the vaccines that were provided by VFC were used for commercial patients, the medicaid kids would not get any shots. Then, lots of people would be peaved that their tax dollars were wasted and the kids suffered.

My doctor's office was out of seasonal flu shots, so I had to go to CVS. It cost me $30, but my insurance may cover it. Target pharmacies around here also have them for $15.

Wow. I guess I am really lucky, we have ours. My employer provides 2 free vouchers for the seasonal flu shot (for employee + partner) so myself & DH (went to Publix, no issue). For DS (6) I went to his pediatrician (again no problem, no co-pay).

Pediatrician did run out of the shot but DS received the mist & since this is his first flu mist he needs to come back in 4 weeks (appt alaready scheduled) & no issues. All my friends, family & co-workers have no problems getting the seasonal flu shot or mist down here in my neck of the woods ( So. FL) .Walgreens, CVS, Publix, even BJ's is giving them out. Either you pay $24.99 if no insurance or they run it through your insurance.

Wish you luck !

Really? It's available in Florida??

I'm so tempted to take a cab from WDW next week and go get one.

I couldn't get it from my doctor's office, so I got it from Walgreen's without any issues. They tried running it through my insurance, but they wouldn't take it, so I paid the $24.99. It wasn't a clinic, I just came in and they gave it to me.

Since the CVS is a "clinic" of sorts and it is considered an office visit, our insurance pays for the shot. They don't pay if we go to Target or Costco or any other stores that just give shots. :confused3 We ended up paying $6.00 of the $30 fee.

The kids at our school (public) are getting the Swine Flu Mist on Oct. 29 if their parents signed a paper...for free. :lmao: I can just see the kids...what are you trying to stick up my nose there? :scared1::eek::mad::rotfl:

I called my Dr. today and they said the end of the month they should have them, but I'm doubting that. My DD is on the waiting list at her pediatrician. Hopefully we will get them soon.

Like others have mentioned, I've not heard of a shortage in FL although I do know that they are giving it to people under the age of 30 first since those older have probably already been exposed to the strain, according to some doctors.

I know at the University of Florida we aren't even doing testing anymore and students are told to just stay home if they think they have the swine as to not contaminate the clinic.

Pensacola Florida has a shortage of seasonal flu vaccines. In Fact, the last of the flu vaccines (only 90 were available) were given out today. I felt sorry for all the people waiting in line that didn't get any.

wow I feel lucky<we have no problem getting the h1n1 vaccine here...they have the mist AND the shot form.we have all had it and my dd3 has to go back in 11 days or so for 2nd dose.

No problem getting the regular flu shot here in SW FL, all 4 of us have gotten it. Nobody I know has had trouble getting the reg flu shot. I haven't heard about anybody having any h1n1 in stock yet but we've already signed the papers for the kids to get it for free at school.

The ped's office called this evening and told me they have the seasonal one in. The kids have an appt Monday, finally.

My college did a two day clinic with free seasonal (not H1N1) shots for all students and staff this week. I was a little surprised, they were really encouraging everyone to get the shot.

My DD's college was supposed to have 4 days to give out seasonal flu shots, but they ran out on the first day the response was so overwhelming.

If the response is so overwhelming for the seasonal one, I wonder how bad its going to be for the H1N1?
