I completed the census form and sent it in very early. Today, I recieved a phone call from someone that identified themselves as a census rep and said they had more questions for my and it would take about 10 minutes. I was busy but also was not comfortable so I asked if they could call me back next week. We set a time next week and hung up.

I am sure I completed everything on the form. Are these calls normal? Or am I over-reacting?

They do random spot checks of some forms to make sure they we actually filled d out by the resident, its fine and normal. If you have caller ID, it should say US Census Bureau

I received a call and hung up on them because I couldn't be sure they were who they say they were and I wasn't going to spend more time on them....I filled out my form and thus performed my civic duty.

I filled out the first form and then received a second...Mailed that one back too...
and I STILL got a visit saying they never received them so we had to fill the one out with the census rep. Then a week later they knocked on my door AGAIN because they couldn't reach my neighbor at home and wanted to know how many people lived there on April 1st.
I hope I'm done with it all now..........

They left a message on my machine so I called back. The young lady who answered was very nice and said they had to check with everyone to make sure people weren't counted twice. She went through a series of questions, asking things like whether we had boarders or foster children staying here.

We got a phone call too. I went over everything with her and then she called me again the next day. Exact same lady - didn't remember calling me the previous evening and had no record of speaking with me.

I was on my way out and feeling rather grumpy at the 2nd phone call and I told her that at this point I feel my Constitutional obligation to the United States has been met and I'm not answering anymore questions.

I hope that doesn't mean the taxpayers will now pay somebody else to visit my house. :sad2:

Oh good grief! You fill out the form and they still call?! Geez!

We filled out our form and mailed it back right away too. I hope they don't call because I would just hang up. If they wanted more information they should have had those questions printed on the form.

We do get some "unknown/unavailable" calls but we never answer those, so maybe they have called and I just don't know it. None of them have ever left a message saying they were census workers.

I mailed back the form, filling out all questions EXCEPT phone number. I saw no reason for them to have that information! Glad I did!:thumbsup2

number came up as 866-851-2010 on my phone. seemed pretty shady on voice mail so I didnt call back. Anyone know if this is really the Cenus beura #?

I searched on the phone number and yes, it is an official Census phone number. Here is a link to a page created by a Congressman encouraging people to respond. You will see it includes the phone number you gave above as an official U.S. Census phone number. It also gives advice on how to avoid identity theft scam phone calls.

Census Bureau to Call Households

We got a call also - two actually before they got us at home and it turned out our phone number was associated with a different address and family name. So after 1 minute of clearing that up - we were done.

I received 2 forms about a week apart filled and mailed them both back. Came home this week to a notice on the door. Irritating

I called the phone number on it, and the person told me he would call me back within 20-25 minutes, but never did. I also told him that I did NOT want him coming to my door again. He came back a few days later. I had told my daughters not to answer. They said he knocked for several minutes and called through the door also. Again Irritating

I called him again and he did the phone interview. I reminded him that I had asked him NOT to come to the door. But somehow he forgot.

I just love that we are paying people to go house to house to house even when the occupants have sent the form already.

Dh filled out our form and he still received a phone call. He was busy at work and didn't have time to talk to them. They kept calling until he answered their questions. They asked the same questions he answered on the form. He was very irritated with them. :rotfl:

Another reason I did not answer any of the phone call questions was if anyone was counted twice that second set of answering questions could very well be the way they count you twice.....unintentionally or not.

I get that number as well as 866-859-2010

They have now called me at least twice a week for the last 5 weeks! I filled out the form and mailed it back the day after I got it. The first time they called I answered how many people lived in the house on April 1 and then said I was done.

The last time they called the woman on the phone said that the call was being recorded for quality assurance or words to that effect, so I told her that she was doing fine, polite and just trying to do her job, however, I was growing tired of these repeated calls and that I was not going to answer any other time they call.

Did anyone else hear that people had been hired to work for the census, 2 weeks later were fired and then the following week rehired to make it look like America was creating new jobs in an effort "to get the numbers up" ?
More crap from this administration.
