I find it sad

I guess my point was that sometimes something bad or sad happens and we need a little support. If you aren't the type to pray or whatever, why not skip those threads without reading them?

I guess I don't see why you are making a connection between the number of people who "pray or whatever" based on the number of people who post.

I read many, many more threads than I actually post on. I don't understand why people would care about that.

I have to be honest, I'm a praying person and I'm not sure what someone posting "I prayed for you" is going to do for me in times of trouble. I care far more about what people I know do for me than strangers on a message board. I usually skip over the prayer posts.

I like the funny fluff threads, but the innane "what kind of bread should I make my sandwich on" posts do make me roll my eyes sometimes. I just keep moving.

I usually don't ask for that kind of thing, then I had a death in the family and I just needed a connection with some "old friends". It sort of hurts to see 150 read the thread and only 5 or 6 respond.

But there's another way to think of this. If 150 people read a request for good thoughts or prayers, I would think that 150 people just sent those things the OP's way whether or not they responded in a post. Sometimes people just don't know what to say--it doesn't mean they aren't doing as you requested, KWIM?

I didn't see your earlier post but I do want to say that I'm sorry for your loss.

Some people are the type to pray or send good thoughts without broadcasting the deed:confused3

Do they really need to "report back" in writing?

To be honest, you seem to have some control issues.

You're right. Thank you for the free therapy.

Piney rhymes with hiney...I'm just sayin':rolleyes1 :rotfl:

I agree, I think it brings back the old "if you can't say anything nice, then don't say anything at all."

 That is exactly what I was thinking.

Op here ya go  I know what you are talking about, and it has entered my mind a few times too.

haven't we had this thread before? Not everyone always has something to say to every thread. not everyone prays. Not everyone feels like expressing their prayers on an open message borad. Just because someone doesn't post doesn't mean they didn't say a little prayer for whomever you asked for it for. Maybe you're just having a rough day. Try not to take everything so personally.

There are LOTS of threads that I will open and read and then not reply in them. Doesn't mean I didn't care what the people were saying in the thread.

The rest of the time I like a laugh and a joke.............oh, and I might pull your leg occassionaly ;)

I just skimmed through two pages worth of threads. I opened a few, but posted on none of them.

OP, I have waited and waited for you to respond to my "First Holiday since my mom died" thread.

Just sayin...:confused3

Yet when I posted some "fluff" plenty of people took the time to be nasty. I am not singling anyone out, just making a general observation of the board.

I've been around a lot longer than my post count shows and things just aren't the same anymore. I always said I only came to the internet for fluff, but that isn't always realistic.

You're getting two different type of readers on the two different threads. When people need support you'll get those who care and it will affect them, whether they post or not, and you'll get the people who need to look at the car wrecks :( Apparently their lives aren't exciting enough(?)

On the Fluff threads, you're getting the people who are looking for a bit of fun, some of who feel it should be at your expense. It's not just the DisBoards, infact these boards are reasonably friendly compared to many ;) (we can thank our mods for that!)

Sit back, relax and enjoy the Disboards for what they are. :happytv: You might make some great friends here, or just get some laughs. :goodvibes

I do not have computer access Friday afternoon thru Sunday evening, so I am sorry I didn't respond. I will look for your thread. I too have lost my parents and it is very hard the first few holidays without them.

 I responded to it. I think this is just someone trying to stir things up.

No, not at all. I had a death in my family last week and was disheartened when 150 people opened the thread, but only 8 responded. I'm over it now (the Dis response, not the death) and I'm sorry if you think I was looking for trouble.
