I feel like I'm missing something?

We are planning on going next October 2024 for my DD's 21st birthday...we've been talking about this for years!

We are going to stay at our home resort, BCV, likely from October 4-12, 2024 but DD will most likely be starting a new job sometime in May or June after college graduation and she is thinking she probably won't be able to come for the whole trip, which is fine because she can fly down and back separately and will most likely bring her boyfriend.

Because of this, I was thinking I would book my DH and I in a 1 bedroom and her and BF in a separate studio for 5-nights (she's thinking she can manage to get off a long weekend) from October 4-9, 2024.

When I look at the Points calculator for our 1-bedroom for 8-nights it's 297 points, PLUS her studio for 5-nights it's 93 points, for a total of 390 points.

Conversely, I could just book all 8-nights in a 2-bedroom lock-off for LESS points...386 total. They'd still have their own space with a separate entrance, but she'd have more flexibility if things don't work out with her job.

What am I missing? I keep double checking to see if I'm doing it wrong??

The lock-off is just a one bedroom with an adjacent studio with connecting door, so you are getting basically the same thing for fewer points. She can lock-off her connecting door to insure privacy.

Plus three more nights which is crazy! Thanks!

Yes, the 2BR is cheaper than the 1BR+studio. Just keep in mind that if she cancels completely, you could easily cancel the studio and keep the 1BR. If you have a 2BR, you’d have to cancel the whole thing and book a 1BR - if available. You’d probably need to call MS and ask for their help. (And banking/borrowing/holding criteria would apply depending on timing.)

I actually was thinking about that but I think we'll have a couple other people with us and decided I'm ok with being a little spread out if that happens.

Definitely book as the lockoff your entire stay if it’s less points then breaking each as separate bookings. The other way of separate reservations won’t guarantee rooms are next to each other, near each other, or on same floor. Also have option now for lockoff or as a dedicated style two bedroom. Same points. Two regular beds, walk in shower, two sinks instead of one. Just lose that kitchenette and separate entry door. You still get a door to close to your own separate room for privacy. Beach Club villa deign puts that bedroom door up front by entrance foyer anyway. Won’t disturb anyone going in and out. Lockoff should be more if you want to lock them out of your privacy space 😉.

Should amend to ‘nearly all’ dedicated have the bedroom door up front. X34 and X54 all five floors (center, pool side of building) have door off living room with that unique room design at building curves.

If you book a two bedroom lock-off and for some reason find out ahead of time that you don't need the studio portion, you should be able to modify your reservation to a one bedroom (since you already have that as part of your two-bedroom lock-off). The separate studio would then be booked by someone else.

This is not how it works. You must cancel it and hope to pick back up the 1 bedroom. There have been a few reports over the years in which someone had a CM make it happen, but it’s the exception and not the rule.

We have been denied that ability several times when those nights were booked. One reason for this is there are people who are on a waitlist for a 2 bedroom and by not allowing the split, it gives those owners a chance.

Thanks, everyone! Like I said, I'm ok with the 2-bedroom and just spreading out a little more if things go awry!

I'm hoping my mom and niece will come and if they do and DD doesn't, they can have the studio.

I see. I guess I was lucky then. Thanks for the clarification.
