This is kinda budget 'cause I'm going broke buying bugspray..... It's summer and we're basically prisoners of our house because the moment we step out doors we become a moveable feast for the mosquitos. They are just viscious this year. I guess due to all the rainwater we have a bumper crop in Northern Illinois. I can't ever remember it being this bad. Is it just my part of the country or are they bad everywhere? And I can't stand the smell of bugspray and hate putting it on my kids. Does anybody know an alternative that actually works?

Tiki torches. Seriously, they are drawn into the flame and get fried. I am highly allergic to chemicals so i use a paste that is made from flowers. It is a little more expensive then normal spray but well worth it. It is available anywhere they sell bug spray. There are many different brands so i will not give you a specific. I even had this stuff i got from Campmor in NJ it was lemon oil and citronella. Smelled nice and actually repelled everything. You can also get Avon Skin So Soft. For some reason it is a great repellent.

They haven't been bad for us in the East, but it's been so dry. Skin so Soft and if you want to spray your yard, I use a garlic concentrate spray that works well. It was recommended to me by a friend who lives in LA and I figured if it worked down there...
It's called Mosquito Barrier and you can order it online. Natural, and the garlic smell fades quickly. It lasts for up to two weeks if you don't have a heavy rain.
