Yeah I have friends heading there in a couple days. They had no idea about cars land. It's shocking to me how little research some people do (or clearly, don't.)

i have no conception of how ANYONE couldnt have known about CL...now what it was about or when it was opening??? ok...but not to know about it at all????? they had to be under a rock because its been all over radio stations, tv advertisements, posters, etc....

I guess it's not totally surprising! Before I was a regular on here, I never worked promotions and pins so I always paid way too much with a WDTC package. I had never seen Fantasmic or knew about dessert seating, never knew there was an awesome holiday tour to take, the list goes on! I was missing a lot before I got on here. Now my family thinks I am a scary disney planner, but man o man, do they have a blast when we're there, thanks to my disney related psychosis!!

Yea I feel real bad for them... They are at Disneyland when they could at home/work sitting at a computer reading a message board about Disneyland! They are such losers!

I do feel bad for some but come on if you are planing to go to dl in the summer for a summer vacation you would think i should find out about parades, shows and ride closuers or openings. its some what commin since

(maybe thats just me after being on the boards for so long)

and its exactly those people who moan and flip out because something isnt going the way they wanted and because they didnt do their homework but want to blame everybody but themselves

Jade...you have a good point about us helping people plan. However, in the past when I have tried to offer advice I get the eye roll. The people I know think it's funny that I love Disney so much.

You would be surprised at how many have no clue CL even exists. I posted on FB yesterday about the brave people lining up to get into DCA for the opening on Friday. At least 5 people wanted to know what was going on and had no clue.

We went with a family of non-planners last year who had no idea what was going on. No idea Star Tours had changed, didn't understand why there was a huge line. Also didn't understand why we wanted to be at DCA for rope drop two mornings to ride TSM. But they still seemed to have a good time! We dragged them along to stuff, and if they got tired or wanted to do their own thing, that was OK. They just loved strolling along soaking up the atmosphere.
Now while I would have a terrible trip with no planning, I can see that some people would still enjoy it. But if you want to hit everything, you need the help of your fellow DISboarders!
Chrissie, where in Hawaii are you thinking of going? My in-laws are all from Oahu, so while I'm no expert, I do know SOMETHING about going there, and kind of from the kama aina or local, perspective. So feel free to message me with questions! I can at least point you to some good guidebooks!

I had a co-worker asking me about places to stay and how much it costs last week. I told him he just missed buying tickets at the old prices and he asked why they raised them. I was talking about CL and he had no clue either. And as PP said it's all over the TV, radio and billboards up here! There's no reason he shouldn't know, he just wasn't paying attention. I'm sure there will be lots of people who complain after this weekend, but with all the resources available out here on the www it makes no sense not to research. That's how I found this board actually, I did a search for a question I had about DL and and the second hit was the Dis, been here ever since! I was actually around lurking for a year before I signed up as a member. I've learned tons of things here.

Yes I agree. This will be a HORRIBLE shock and my heart goes out to those who didnt do research before their arrival. However it is not like there wasnt months of advertising on this. Those people will just have to take a deep breath and go with the flow and try and find other things to do in the parks. As crazy as it may be, it is kinda cool tho they get to say "I WAS THERE THE DAY THE PARK RE OPENED". Many of us would like to have put that on a finished bucket list, but were too chicken to brave it or couldnt afford to go during this time.

Well, many of them will think DLR is always like this and probably vow that this will be their one and only trip there while they drag their cranky family into the 4 hour RSR line... They'll also be confused why their "friend" or "co-worker" or their DD's best friend's parents love this place so much.

And maybe it will press the poor "planner" of the trip to google "Disneyland tips" or "crowds" or something like that when they get home and they'll stumble on this piece of paradise and before we know it, we'll have ourselves a new member, dedicated to giving their family a re-do trip, planned so far in advance, they're almost afraid to tell their friends.

Oh dear spontaneous trip planners within a short driving distance of Anaheim, please, oh please, wait at least a week or so. Don't go today.

Me too *feeling bad* also for friends who recently returned, 2 families we know with young boys! Had they waited a few weeks - would've been crazy so a few months would've been better *one family with 3 boys was there for the 1st time* they could've seen CL!!

I was really bummed when I found out CL would not open until after our trip...we were there last weekend. But now, I am sooooo glad. We had a wonderful trip thanks to all the advice I learned on the dis!

I explained to my 7 yo daughter that we were doing things in a certain order to avoid the longs lines. Later in the day when the wait times were getting bad and we had fast passes she said "thank you mommy for bringing me and making it so we don't have to wait". We waited no longer than 20 minutes with the exception of TSMM which was 35min. My kids thought FP was the best thing ever! While breezing through the FP line of BTMRR next to the stand by line with a 65 minute wait, my 4 yo was singing "FP,FP I love FP". If he wasn't so darn cute I think a few people might have come over the rail at him!

Anyway...we had a wonderful trip and i can't wait to go back and see Carsland after all the dust has settled!

yep we did the same thing...was there a couple weeks ago..i want to do CL but i knew how bad it was going to get so we are going to wait till Oct. to go back...i think a little bit of the dust will have settled by then ...

The thing about it though is that even if it is the worst day at Disneyland, these people will assume it's frequently like that and won't learn to love DLR like we do.

I cannot thank the DIS enough! This Louisiana family planned our 8 day trip 10 months ago. We were originally spending the first 3 days in Hollywood then going to DL. After finding out about Carsland opening on 6/15 we went to DL first, then came to hollywood. Did universal today, & rode/saw everything (transformers 3 times) by 2pm. Had a wonderful SoCal trip with no hassles thanks to the Dis Boards!

We were going to change our trip to this week to make a wedding reception, but when we found out Carsland was opening this week we scrapped that plan and stuck with last week! DD(6) was thrilled because she hates cars and Test Track (WDW's RSR type ride), and was very happy she wouldn't have to go to Carsland.

Actually, I don't know how bad this weekend might be, but looking at the wait times app (which we used last week and found really accurate) the wait times for everything outside of Carsland don't look that horrible right now. Soarin is 35 minutes , ariel 20 minutes, and the rest don't look much worse than last week other than TSM which is 110 minutes (guess people are moving from Carsland to TSM!). DL doesn't look that bad either. Star Tours is only 25 minutes; Buzz 10 minutes, Nemo 40, and Indy an hour. Matterhorn is 75, but that is because it just reopened. It really isn't much different than what we saw this time of day last week. Maybe as long as you don't want to actually see Carsland you would be fine. Of course, we'll see if that holds true tomorrow!

Non-planners & those that have NO clue, will think that Disney is always like this! And they will probably never want to come back. So sad...but I gotta say, it makes the parks less crowded for everyone else.

And thanks all for the offers to help with my Hawaii trip. We have a nice resort that we are looking into and I've found some decent guidebooks, but we are still at least a year or 2 away. So I'm not too worried about it...yet.

We had the same experience just a few weeks ago with my 6 year old! And it was all because of this site and about 10-15 hours of planning over the past few months. We did way more than we have EVER done before and the longest ride we waited for was TSMM even though we were at DCA rope drop, that ride was closed until about 1:30 in the afternoon. My son got picked 1st show for Jedi Training (I knew to dress him in a Star Wars shirt, etc,) we had two GREAT MM mornings and did all the FL rides, which we had never been able to do on 2 previous visits, so much more! On a 4.5 day trip, we rode Soarin 6x, TOT 5 x, Star Tours 6-7 times, 1st ever time riding the Subs with NO Line. We did all the show, front row at Alladin and the Genie interacted with my son, etc etc I could go on and on!
