I feel as though we are getting a great deal of our investment with just our first stay!

Ok, I may be silly but here goes. With the purchase of our "get your feet wet" contract at OKW for 40 points, I am using those points for two nights at the AKVs-CL studio in June. I looked up the price after tax and all on Mousesavers for our dates and it was $702 a night! So I feel like we just got $1400 worth of our investment back with our first stay. I am beyond excited and grateful!

It doesn’t quite work that way because you probably never would have paid those prices anyway.

DVC doesn’t save me money. Far from it! Disney is a money sink hole for us ever since we bought in.

We go much more often. We’ve added on twice. APs. Must dos. And we’ve even switched to cruising Disney instead of Carnival:

Me, to DW, “If we go to the DVC seminar during the cruise, we can probably get extra FP for our trip to WDW after.”

And Heaven help us, but Club 33 WDW sounds great!

Darn! I missed out on the free FP during my seminar a couple of weeks ago. But the three free drinks which normally cost $10 each has given me a $30 return on investment already! At this rate, I just need to chug 110 drinks during the DVC seminar on my next cruise to make up for that year's MFs.

I am so glad that you are enjoying your DVC purchase already! I do agree about the sinkhole comment though, we bought DVC to force ourselves to vacation and do things for ourselves besides work, but I think we may now be on the opposite end of the spectrum, I don't dare even attempt to add up our Disney expenses, especially since we added DL trips to the mix a couple years ago, nope just nope not doing that math.

Oh, I know you could never really pay for one, because they are never available. But it just gave me a warm and cozy feeling about the purchase of our entry contract, that's all.
Because I’m a DVC member, I go more often.

Because I go more often, I know many more tricks/secrets.

I’m a Disney Superuser.

There are lots of neat things along the way to smile about.

It’s neat to catch a rare reservation last minute.

Yep, I was pretty pleased with myself when I used my ‘lowly’ AKV points to add three nights in a VGF villa in a 1 br. in Dec. to our trip a few years ago.
Of course that led to the purchase of 160 VGF points to add on.
When I bought those AKV points I never planned to use them for club stays as we aren’t drinkers or snackers, but now that club can get extra fast passes and early FP booking for what is it, $50 a day per person? I’m seriously considering trying out the AKV club villas when Star Wars land opens :)
I will say that owning DVC enables me to enhance my Disney vacations.

You would have stayed somewhere less enjoyable (for you) for less money. That's how I see it. Sure, I wouldn't spend $400-500 a night for a beach club room, but staying at BCV is much more enjoyable than POR, for instance, so I'm glad we can stay where we want. It's all a matter of perspective.

So true.

Got a Poly Studio for after a very last minute cruise. We were going straight home after the cruise, but we have Premium AP, so, why not a day at B.B. followed by some fireworks? Couldn’t think of a reason to miss this opportunity!

As time goes on you will get a better understanding of the DVC, the pluses and minuses and you will get a better understanding of where I am coming from. You will become the next generation of Diser's offering opinions and advice here on this wonderful community resource.

Funny thing, I called Member Services today to update my guest list and the lady was like, how did you score the studios there! It was funny.

I know exactly how you feel. We stayed in a grand villa at BWV over Thanksgiving last year. Would have never splurged that way without DVC.

Our first stay, we did 2 nights in the grand villa, 2ngts in the treehouses, and then 4 nets in the 2 bedroom at GF. I knew we would borrow from the next year, because the plan was to go every 2 years or 1 1/2. But I feel the same way, you do. We purchased a resale contract with 270 points that were available to use.

The value really adds up if your a big family and need to book 2 regular hotel rooms, made buying DVC with access to 2 bedroom suites for the cost of 1 deluxe hotel room at WDW a no brainer. We went to the Poly in 2015 with our whole extended family and for the cost of my family (5 people) in 1 hotel room, we spent more for that week than what we are spending for a week in a 2 bedroom suite at VGF (including MF's). We only go to WDW once a year and spending a week in a 2 bedroom suite with the grandparents enjoying time with my kids just adds even more value to DVC for us.

In GCV just the savings in parking and taxes is huge. Keep thinking there must be a catch, finally figured out there was none. We booked short 4 staycations this year at GCV and another three nights at AKW for our WDW trip. Next year Aulani for sure. One of my better investments

I think if they keep DVC stays free of parking charges, that could really be a big selling point. Some say they could eventually charge for that, some say they can't.

They DO charge for it. Part of the maintenance fees go to maintaining the parking lot.

I know the owners do, but it looks like a possible marketing ploy. I'm sure if they could figure out a resale/direct purchase advantage they would most certainly use that angle.
