Ok here we go... I want to replace the bad images in the database...

Here is the criteria for a bad pic:

1. Fuzzy
2. Too small
3. Picture is too dark
4. No Image (this is of course the worst...HEHE)
5. Taken at an angle instead of straight on the pin.
6. You can't really see what the colors are from the image.
7. Or it is just plain bad.

Ok so Lets see what we can do.. We will have a week long contest to see who can send in the most images to replace the bad ones in the database. Start at number 1 and go for it. The prize will be nice but I am not going to tell you what it is yet...LOL

Below are some of the preferred setting of images that we like at PinPics. Do not worry about byte size as I actually prefer the images to be too big so that I can play with them and put them how I like them.

1. I prefer images that are between 150x150 - 250X250 Pixels but if you make them larger so I can play with them that is great.
2. Prefer cream or white backgrounds as the blacks tend to make the pins harder to see in many cases.

We will do a first and second place for the person who submits the most images that get USED.....

Submit them to figgy@pinpics.com and make sure that you include your pinpics name and email in the actual email so that I can make a list and keep track of submissions...

To help out I am going to list the ones that have no pics.. I will try and keep it updated.

This sounds interesting. I'd hate to have your inbox over the next week.

oh man!!!!!
You start talking pixels and you have GONE way over my head. I am a self proclaimed computer idiot, especially when it comes to images (NH Mickey can attest to my problems in that area!!!!--think if he gets one more email from me about clip art he will disown me! But I haven't bugged him in a long time....hmmm I feel an email coming on!)

SO on that note......GOOD LUCK to all you image whizzes!!!!!!!

Lynnie,

Anytime I can help...:) Oh and Figgy... WOW you are missing a few pictures. I even have a few pins you didn't list... I will scan them. I promise.:smooth:

Here are some examples of "bad" pins"

Too Fuzzy:

Too Dark:

Have fun!!!

Here are a couple of other examples:

Way Too Dark:

pin7950

I can fix it if it is a little too dark but when it is this dark it is easier to get a new pic.

Flash glare:

Inconsistent lighting:

Lacking detail:

Here are some tips I posted a few months back that might help.

Tips for taking pictures of pins

General Tips
Choose a neutral, solid colored (gray or tan) background for either scanning or photographing your pin. The black cards the pins come on can throw the exposure of your camera or scanner off and cause the picture to come out dark. White can cause too much glare and make it difficult to see the edges of the pin.

If at all possible take the pin out of the plastic wrapper.

Avoid textured surfaces and bright colors as these will detract from the pin.

Pin the pin to something. This will lessen the shadows caused by the pin back.

If the pin uses gold or silver metal for large areas, photographing the pin works better than scanning. Scanning often causes these areas to appear black and can be difficult to see dark colored areas especially dark text.

Keep the compression size as low as possible. Some graphics programs allow you to control the compression factor of the picture. Too much compression can result in a loss of detail. It is better to make the picture a little smaller than have the loss of detail that occurs when a picture is compressed by a factor of more than 15.

Scanner tips
Set the scanner’s resolution, (DPI or Dots Per Inch) around 100. If you have graphics software and can resize/edit the picture you may want to try 150, if it is a big pin, or 200 for average sized pins. When resizing your picture try to cut it in half, 50% or decrease the DPI by 50%. Both will lower the over all size of the file.

Photography (digital or conventional)
If using a digital (or regular) camera do not get too close. This will cause the picture to be blurry or out of focus. It is better to shoot it at a high resolution from further away and use graphics software to crop out the unwanted parts. Also make sure your hand(s) are clear of the focusing apparatus’s sensor.

Try to shoot in indirect daylight, near a bright window or outside in the shade. This will eliminate the need for a flash, which will cut down on glare and make the colors “true”. Indoor lighting can throw the colors off. Common light bulbs (incandesant) will cause pictures to look yellow and florescent can cause them to be green or brown.

If you have any questions about any of this or need any help resizing, cropping, brightening etc. your picture feel free to contact me.
