I was thinking about this while reading the thread about Musket Mickey. Something was said about how people ( not just Disney)
feel the need to change the classics. Back in the late 70's I experienced the Fort for the first time. I don't remember the site number ( I know,, forgetful me :confused3 :lmao: ) but, we were on Spanish Moss Lane and my brother and I used to ride the trams around the Fort. They had busses but we loved the trams ( just like the ones in the park parking areas ).I think the trams only ran during the day. What things have been " changed " that you miss. Being a camping thread I don't know if we have to limit this to the fort.:coffee:

It really hasn't been that long ago "90's" but DH and I use to really enjoy when Crocketts Tavern sold Steaks they were so good. I still enjoy Crocketts but wish they had more of a menu then TE. I guess I like the atmosphere of Crockets because I still end up there at some point.:rolleyes1

I miss the peacocks. And the fish food at the marina. And Discovery Island. And River Country.

:rolleyes1

I miss the train more than you can imagine. That to me still signifies all that was "original" about the Fort :(

I haven't actually been to FW yet, so I won't know the difference. I think that's good :thumbsup2 and also bad :sad2: .

However, my co-worker grew up in Florida and stayed at FW several times. As we've talked she's been sad about the peacocks and a place that sounds like a petting zoo?

If you do a search on the forum you can find some posts with pictures of the now defunct swamp trail.

I miss the TRAIN and the tram!!! I miss Buffalo Wings at Crockett's Tavern. I miss the weekend entertainment they used to have at Crockett's (did anyone ever see the singing fish guy?). I miss River Country and the Swamp Trail. I DO NOT miss the peacocks or the roosters!!! OMG...I forgot all about Mickey Moo!! I miss the Marshmallow Marsh Canoe excursion!!
I miss how everyone got into the whole Ft. Wilderness theme by greeting each other with "Howdy!" I miss the horse-drawn chuck wagon that went around the loops in the mornings selling breakfast items.

I am a child of the 60's!! :hippie:

I say howdy all the time. It embarrasses my kids.

It was Minnie Moo, not Mickey Moo. I was sad the year we went and she was no longer with us. The CM who told me about it when I asked where she was started to cry. Me too.

I saw an old menu from the late 70's (IIRC) that had alacarte items available at Trails end. It would be nice to be able to just get a couple of eggs and toast instead of all you can eat. From what I hear the carry out menus have shrunk over the years also.
We didnt discover FW until around 94 or 95 and didnt stay there until we stayed in a cabin in 99 or 2000. We use our trailer more at FW than anywhere else. With a shrinking "fun" budget lately we have been putting off some short trips to save up for our next FW trip.

Howdy, FtWildernessguy!!!

YOU"RE RIGHT!!! It was Minnie Moo!!! (Stupid me, it was a cow, not a bull!) Forgive me, I'm old!! :lmao:

HOWDY!

I hate to admit it, but I am getting old too. Pretty sad when my assistants are younger than my kids now.

Yes, I flunked biology. I stand corrected, it was minnie moo. I remember a picture of minnie moo in our newspaper up North when we had neither the time or the money to go to WDW and thinking it would be great to see her in person. Many years later, on our first trip to the Fort after retiring, it was so great to see her. We looked forward to it every year. Now I guess she's in cow heaven mooing to her hearts content.
