Sound like fun! Do they need any extra breakfast minded friends

The open bar things doesn't impress me as everyone doesn't drink, but everyone usually eats!
But maybe not so much for the meal at a late afternoon / evening wedding.
We received an invite for a wedding. The wedding is at 4PM with the reception to immediately follow. I found out today that the couple is having an open bar (beer, whiskey, vodka and rum) with the meal being pancakes, hash browns, scrambled eggs and a meat, most likely bacon or sausage.
Really, I do like breakfast buffets especially the ones at Disney.I'll even admit to making pancakes for supper once in a while at home. But dressing up, formal attire, for pancakes? That's a new one for me.
Would have made more sense to do an earlier wedding (normally less expensive) with brunch food and serve mimosas for the alcohol. Not my first choice either, but hey - Free food! Works for me!!! (Well, not free, but you know what I mean). IMHO, it's their wedding, so they can do whatever they want! Strange, yes.. but not my decision and I don't have to go to the reception if I don't like it.
+1 if there are mimosas.. they're the best thing about breakfast/brunch buffets!
I'm curious about what other corners they are cutting. Are the flowers being kept simple and seasonal? Is the brides gown a couture creation or off the rack? Honeymoon on a budget?
I say this because I have seen so many weddings recently where all the corners cut have to do with the guests, but the costs are still sky high for things that tickle the fancy of the couple. I have no problem with keeping costs down for a wedding. Crazy to spend the cost of a house down payment on a wedding. But when you invite people, they are your guests and their comfort should be taken into account also. As a guest, I have expenses that come with attending your event. And the couple probably expects a nice gift as well. Will they be happy with a gift on the level of a pancake breakfast as opposed to on the level of a dinner? The open bar things doesn't impress me as everyone doesn't drink, but everyone usually eats!

I would love this! Yes it's different and off-the-wall but maybe they'll start a new trend.
Yum, pancakes and bloody marys.![]()
If they couldn't afford a typical dinner and wanted to do a breakfast menu, they should have done a brunch.
If they had done a brunch, as a guest I would have thought "isn't this nice?" As it is, if I were a guest, my thoughts would be "seriously??"
And formal?? Really??
Breakfast food and beer/wine sounds horrid.

Pancakes = alcohol absorbtion material
