But maybe not so much for the meal at a late afternoon / evening wedding.

We received an invite for a wedding. The wedding is at 4PM with the reception to immediately follow. I found out today that the couple is having an open bar (beer, whiskey, vodka and rum) with the meal being pancakes, hash browns, scrambled eggs and a meat, most likely bacon or sausage.

Really, I do like breakfast buffets especially the ones at Disney. :goodvibes I'll even admit to making pancakes for supper once in a while at home. But dressing up, formal attire, for pancakes? That's a new one for me.

I think it kind or neat and different, maybe there first date was over breakfast or the got engaged over breakfast. I'm sure it holds a special mean for them

That's a nice thought and if that were the case then it would be kind of warm and fuzzy. :goodvibes

But no, they're actually doing it, and openly admit, they couldn't afford any of the more usual options. For example, Polish dinners are very popular here.

Breakfast for dinner. Always fun

I was thinking the same thing - that there is some special "meaning" behind this particular menu..

Personally I would love it! :thumbsup2 I don't drink alcoholic beverages - so I guess I wouldn't have to worry about them not "mixing" well with the food - and I'd much, much rather have a breakfast buffet late in the day or in the evening as just the mere thought of food in the morning makes me sick to my stomach..

I hope everyone enjoys themselves and no one makes an issue out of the food choices..:goodvibes

Oops! Didn't see this before I responded the first time.. No change in my opinion though - hopefully no one will make a big deal out of it..

And good for them - not going into debt for something they can't afford just for the sake of appearances! :thumbsup2

That's a new one for me, too. Seems a little weird to pair a breakfast buffet with an open bar.

I like breakfast, even like it for dinner sometimes but that sounds weird to me. Especially the thought of beer & whiskey with breakfast. That's just me though.

For a brunch type reception that was earlier in the day I could see it.

I think it is really odd at the time of day especially.

What is a Polish dinner?

Polish Dinner, served buffet style -

Polish Sausage
Fried Chicken
Mashed Potatoes
Noodles (big fat ones)
Green Beans
Sauerkraut
Dinner Rolls

Sometimes there'll be a pasta or potato salad too. The sausage isn't served or eaten in a bun like at a fair. You cut it into bite sized pieces on your plate.

If they couldn't afford a typical dinner and wanted to do a breakfast menu, they should have done a brunch.

If they had done a brunch, as a guest I would have thought "isn't this nice?" As it is, if I were a guest, my thoughts would be "seriously??"

And formal?? Really??

Good for them for saving money.

However, if they asked me, I would have suggested they just do mimosas for the adult drinks portion. It matches the meal and would save even more money.

They should have done all hors d'oeuvre or something like do a buffet table with a large turkey people hand carve, if they had to save money.

Pancakes = alcohol absorbtion material

:lmao:

I think they should have picked a less expensive venue.

My opinion? Scrap the open bar and serve some decent food. I find it strange to serve breakfast food after a 4pm wedding. 11 am wedding, maybe...:confused3
