I drew my BIL's name for Christmas & I'd love to hear some ideas on what might be a nice thing to get him.

He enjoys cooking. He enjoys wine. He's very easy going & is usually appreciative of anything he receives.

He is a Baltimore Orioles fan (although he doesn't live anywhere near there)!

I've had his name in the past & got him a food processor one year (he asked for it). Did a wine of the month club once for him & SIL.

Our budget is $50.

If he likes to cook, check this place out for spices. http://www.spiceandtea.com/
I go to the one in Tarpon Springs and it is awesome! Just now though when I went to the website to get you the link it says it just opened a store in DTD.

They do mail order but if you have one near you check it out. I have about 10 different blends from them. Tomorrow I am trying the espresso steak seasoning. Can't wait for that one.

I just ordered this for my my BIL if your's likes to grill

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001RIY9F6/ref=ord_cart_shr?ie=UTF8&m=ATVPDKIKX0DER

It is a cast iron frajiti set for the grill by cuisinart
I'll add something with it but not sure yet.

Last year I got him a nice martini shaker, martini recipe book and a good bottle of Gin and Vodka

The year before he got a waffle maker and several bottles of different flavored syrup and a couple types of waffle mix. and something else but I don't remember!

I'd try & get him some cool Baltimore Orioles stuff. Its hard being a fan of a team when you don't live in the area. Maybe some cups & plates to use when he's watching the games?

Yay- I :lovestruc shopping for gifts almost as much as I like getting them!

How about doing up a gift basket? Maybe a Baltimore Orioles apron, or any other logo cooking/grilling items (dish towel, oven mitts, corkscrew etc.), some spices, gourmet vinegars, a couple bottles of wine, gourmet snacks (peanuts, popcorn), etc...all in a basket or a nice wicker box (I've seen them at Marshall's/TJ-Maxx-type places).

He sounds like a great person to shop for- good luck! :thumbsup2

OP'er, sorry to hijack. Phorsenuf, have you ever been to Penzeys Spices? I am curious how the two compare. I go to the one in Winter Park and the place you linked to also has a Winter Park location. I am going to have to check them out.

On topic - I love the idea of a spice gift basket! :thumbsup2

PENZEY!!! I love their spice choices- You can do some great gift boxes from them. As a cook I love getting some unusual spices.

Another item on my list is a cheap one but a good one. My friend took some classes and got this- I tried it and really never thought a peeler could be so cool- it's heavy in the hand and has a little ledge that protects fingers.

If you want to go wine I think I saw a wine cooler on the Black friday ads inexpensive let me find it
Ok It's Lowes- an 8 bottle wine cooler for $49. (it's a over $100 wine cooler)

I was going to suggest Penzey's too. They have a great selection of blends as well as regular spices. Their catalogs have great recipes and usually have a coupon for a free spice. I often give their gift boxes for hostess gifts, etc. and they are always well received.

You could also try some fun kitchen gadgets. We got my Dad a ceramic knife last year (thanks to a DIS suggestion) and he LOVES it. Maybe a couple of those?

I actually had thought of getting some Penzey's spices for him. Since a recommendation on the DIS a few years back I have ordered cinnamon from them for some homemade Swedish Cinnamon Bread that I make for the holidays (actually making 4 batches today!)

Anyway, with each order I've gotten a sample spice of some kind & they are always great. They recently opened a store in my area.

Penzy's looks great. I'll have to check them out next time zi am over there. Do the stores have all the spices out so you can smell them and such like the other place?

OP- I thought of another idea. I had my brother one year and he too loves to cook. I bought him one of those old style metal meat grinders, a book on how to make sausage and a GC to a local store where he could buy casings and such. I also included 3 different types of sausage seasonings and a stuffer tool. He loved it!

I was also going to suggest Penzy's spices. (I need to get there myself - we have a round-robin gift exchange - and I need a $10 gift. They have a couple of mini-spice kits for around $9.00 this year :thumbsup2).

Yes, everything is out and displayed. The have "sample" jars out too if you want to taste them.

You mentioned that he liked wine, but if he also likes beer, a nice gift idea is a gift basket with beer from around the world . You can add some gourmet pretzels or nuts and wrap it all up in a basket or a stainless steel tub. My boss gt this as a gift a few years ago and it looked really sharp.

Yes, he does like beer also, so that's an idea.

How about a vacuum sealer for wine?
I'm pretty sure he has one of these. They are pretty cool.

Does your BIL like beer? One year I bouhgt my brother a beer brewing kit and he love it.

Hopefully none of my in-laws are disers because I plan on getting nearly all of them personalized items from thatsmypan.com

I think there are quite a few items that after being personalized will be @ $50 Good luck and Happy Holidays!!
