Considering a small add-on to our BWV contract (or even taking up the current SSR incentive for the 130 & APs) as a birthday/Mother's Day present for DW... Think of it as a diamond I get to enjoy! Anyone out there know if I'll be able to do so without DW signing the paperwork? We are co-owners on the existing initial contract and add-on. Not sure if FL real estate laws will allow me to purchase "property" with right of survivorship without my spouse's invovement.

Unfortunately, we can't speak to our Guide (never have, in fact) because DVD isn't registered to offer real estate in Nebraska... We have a trip coming up in mid-May, going to have to come up with a ruse to sneak over to the preview center at SSR!

Not sure if this answers your question, but I purchased my DVC ownership in my own name. My DH did not have to sign anything. I don't know about right of survivorship though...

We just added two small contracts to our BCV contract. Since it's the same use year the contracts all have the same number with a .0, .1, and a .2 behind them. I believe all 3 contracts are treated as 1 for point purposes and as such the signitures have to be the same as the original. (How closely they check I don't know )

If this would be a separate contract I'm sure only your signature would be required.

They have to be notarized.

Unless you are buying your DW 150 points, she will have to sign any add-on contracts. A new 150 point contract will not require her signature and can be placed in your name only.

Im sure she wouldnt mind the 150

You could always wrap the paperwork up as her gift and present it to her on Mother's Day. The points will be ready to book ressies immediately, so all that will be left is the notarized sigs. A small detail for a wonderful surprise.

I know I would be thrilled and happy to sign!

We're from Omaha!

We're in the same boat. When we added on at the Boardwalk we could not do it from Nebraska. Because we only own real estate property in Nebraska our only option was to add on while we were on Disney property.

I have called our guide several times before going down for our trips.

If you have a trip planned in the near future I would suggest calling your guide. Ask what is available in your use year at the resort that you want to add on at.

When you arrive at the world one of the lovely DVC vans will pick you up from your resort or one of the parks even and whisk you away to the main office at SSR. There you sign the paperwork for the add on.

I bet your guide can come up with a special way for you to surprise the DW with the add on.

And I thought you were moving back to the great State of Maine; but maybe that's later in the year. You could tell them you're calling from Maine, and put down a deposit, then do all the documentation when you get down there. Alternatively, you could cross the river into Iowa (provided DVD is authorized to sell there) and call them on your cell phone. Get yourself a new cellphone number in the 207 (ME) area code.

In any case, you could set things up, by hook or by crook, have the downpayment with DVC all set, then get together and sign stuff in Florida.


This is a toughy: how to surprise spouse with a DVC add-on, especially when your Guide can't talk to you from you home....

We are moving back to Maine, in August... DW's b-day is in June.

This may be a "bridge too far." Might wait until we get settled and can do this direct with our guide.

They have to be notarized.

When we did an add on in 2002, the documents didn't have to be notarized. But maybe they do now-especially after DVC dealt with us! Since we'd bought our original contract through DVC just months before, they told us our add on documents didn't have to be notarized. DH was out of town on business when our documents arrived for signing. Rather than being honest and waiting til DH got home, I was anxious so I (gasp!) forged his signature. Hey, it works at the bank! But apparently, they did check pretty closely, because about a week later we got the documents back with a nicely worded note that DH's signature "didn't quite match" the one they had on file so if he'd please sign "again", they'd appreciate it. By then, he was home from his trip, so he did and off they went, with me wishing I'd waited in the first place and not be a forger!
