I don't understand this, why so many boys?

It seems like everyone I know that is preggers is having a boy.

On these boards Kermit and Becka just had boys. I think there are more but I can't remeber. (preggo brain)

I'm having a boy.

My best friend just had a boy 6 weeks ago.

Another good friend and coworker is having twin boys.

There are 2 more women at work that are preggers and one knows she is having a boy the other is waiting to find out.

In my department over the last 3 years we have had 8 babies and only one has been a girl. (out of 15 dept. members!)

That's 14 boys and one girl (and one who doesn't know) out of all the people I know. I don't have anyone to buy frilly cute pink things for! It's getting to be a bit spooky. I know people are having girls but not where I live. Is it coincidence? Something in the water? Or is nature planning this, like she know we will need a lot of boys in 18 years? Maybe across town there is another suburb that is having all girls?;)

I know what you mean! Maybe it is a Missouri thing? ;)

When I was pregnant with DS the only person I knew that was having a girl was my sister. Three other co-workers were all expecting within a few months of me and all had boys. My best friend had a boy and on these boards it seems that most people are having boys! You mentioned Kermit, but I think Scuttle is also having a boy, Princess Aurora had a boy around the same time I had DS, and there were several others as well.

There is a biological reason for this, I think.

Hmmm, perhaps the tide will turn and there will be more males than females now ;)

Don't give DW any ideas...lol
We have 2 girls....:jester:

Add DS to the list of boy babies born in May
DS will be 11 in a few weeks

Around here, it's just the opposite. We are having a boy in July, but I have six friends and co-workers who are also pregnant now and they are all having girls! Looks like my little boy will have lots of choices for girlfriends!

A few years ago I read a study that found that the highest likelihood was for a couple's first two children to be boy - boy. After that, the chances of having a girl get higher. I don't know if there was a medical reason for this or if it was just coincidence.

Barb (mom of two boys)

Skuttle is having a boy too!

I agree though, there are so many more boys being born than girls - at least around me anyway!

Yep...we're having a boy.

I agree...everyone I know is having a boy, too. DH's cousin is due next month w/ a boy. Isn't NurseKim having a boy?

There's been studies showing that the rate of male births increases during times of war.

My grandmother used to say that you can tell when there is going to be a war because more boys are born.

I guess that old wives tale has to be thrown out because of the number of women in the military, not to mention I would hate to think there could ever be any truth to the tale.

Interesting isn't it? When I had my DD, my 6 friends pregnant at the same time also had girls, and of 15 babies in the hospital with her, only one was a boy. And, last January/February, of 8 pregnant friends - only one had a boy, the rest had girls. Do you think it could be a cyclical thing that eventually evens out? It would be interesting if anyone could find the statistic for how many boys vs girls were born in the US last year or so to see if it is a long or short-term pattern.

The same thing happened when I was pregnant with DS. It seemed like there were boys popping out left and right. The ironic thing was in his first year of preschool there was only him and 1 other boy in the class...all the rest girls. Go figure!:D

Add me to the list of those having a boy...I will have kids and only one is a girl :-)

When I was pregnant with my dd, everyone I knew that was pregnant at the same time as I was was expecting a girl, too. Except for my best friend. She had a ds.:) She had to be diffferent.:teeth: When I was pregnant with my ds, everyone I knew that was pregnant at the same time I was wasing expecting a girl. I had to be different that time.;)

I seem to recall that the odds that a baby will be a male are slightly better than 50%. But since female life expectancy in the United States is about 6 years longer than males, the number of females gradually increases to the majority. I found the following info on the web:

Age structure in the United States (as of July 2000 census):
0-14 years:21.25% (male 29,956,875; female 28,597,880)
15-64 years:66.11% (male 90,345,154; female 91,827,471)
65 years and over:12.64% (male 14,472,865; female 20,362,428) (2000 est.)

Sex ratio:
at birth: 1.05 male(s)/female
under 15 years: 1.05 male(s)/female
15-64 years: 0.98 male(s)/female
65 years and over: 0.71 male(s)/female
total population: 0.96 male(s)/female (2000 est.)

It's the opposite for me. I know 5 people who were pregnant this past year, 4 of the 5 had girls!

It's the same here, everyone I know is having (or has just had) girls. In the group of people that I know, there is only one boy and prolly 10 or 12 girls. weird.
