When I was in Disney World a couple of weeks ago, I was complimented on my beautiful granddaughter (who is really my 11 year daughter) by a women much older than I. I took it in stride because my hair is becoming a nice blend of salt and pepper (I'm only 45).

But....while shopping at Kohl's Wednesday, I noticed that my bill was much less than expected. Looking at it when I got home I saw that I had received the SENIOR CITIZEN'S DISCOUNT.

My husband and son have called me "Grandma" since our trip, which is all in fun. I don't know what to think now. Maybe I can make this really work for me. You know, go to IHop and get the Senior Citizen discount. :p

I got a discount at the local grocery store on "Senior Day"

I know the feeling. AARP sent me an application. It says right on there: "for 50 & over". HELLO?! why are you sending it to me? (I'm just not there...yet!)
My oldest sister is is 11 years older than me, and she got mistaken for my mom when I was little!
Hey - accept the discounts!!

I had my kids in my 30's and I've been asked if they are my grandkids before. Its SUCKS to hear that!

I just try and think that these people who are asking these questions had their kids when they were 14 or something.

(makes me feel better, anyway!)

I missed the early grey gene in our family but my twin sis didn't. We're 43 and she's very grey. I had my children later and she didn't have children but after divorcing her 1st husband married someone with grown children and is now a step-grandma.

I love to give her a hard time - she is 10 minutes older than I am ;) I tell people it really shows, she's grey headed and a grandma. I have a few grey hairs and I'm several years away from being a grandma :)

My aunt was my age when she 1st became a grandmother (I'm 32). I don't think anyone has ever thought I was my kids' grandmother. I'd probably just say I was indeed their granny and then I'd lmbo.;)

My mother was a grandmother at 38, browneyes. She had a baby at 18, and then that baby grew up and had one at 20.

That just blows my mind, I'm 38, and cannot imagine being a grandmother!!!!

Snoopy, my aunt was 16 when she had my cousin. He was 2 months shy of being 16 when his first ds was born. His ds is 16 now. Thankfully, my aunt isn't a great-grandmother at 48!

hehehe. Some people are not good at judging age. Once when I was not quite 17, I was with a friend of mine who was almost 11 (but very small for her age) at an American Girl event. We were both dressed up and carrying AG dolls. Anyway, as we entered the place, a woman working there said something like "how sweet, mom has dressed up too!" My friend and I just looked at each and were like...what??? We're only 6 years apart!

When I was younger, people often thought I was older since I developed at a young age. Usually, though, I get mistaken nowadays for younger. A year or two ago some man my mom was chatting with at a store thought I was 13! And the other day at a flea market, a lady thought my sister and I looked no older than 15 or 16!

I was 30 minutes shy of my 36th birthday when I became a grandmother for the first time. The baby needed surgery immediately after she was born (we knew she would need it ahead of time) so she was in the neo-natal unit for a couple of weeks and I remember the first time I reached into the isolette to touch the baby, I was reprimanded by a nurse. She said I couldn't touch the baby, that only the parents and grandparents could. I just smiled and said I was the paternal grandmother. She looked shocked, apologized and said she didn't think I was a grandmother because I "didn't have any wrinkles on my face." :D

As for getting a "senior citizen discount", I'm a waitress in a family-oriented restaurant and we give senior discounts on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday for people age 55 and up. It's so hard to judge people's ages! I have given discounts and then gotten yelled at by the people because they weren't old enough to get them, but they sure LOOKED old enough! And it's hard to ASK them if they qualify for the discount, so it's a very fine line...and now I don't give them the discount unless THEY say something FIRST!!!

That is funny. People have thought my mother and I are sisters before. I guess she looks young for her age. When I am with my SO I am always thought much older than when I am by myself. In one week I had a guy ask if I was 24, and another guy (at a mechanics place, when I was dropping off my mom's car for her) ask if I lived and went to school around here, when I mentioned I was in college, he said I barely looked old enough to drive  I was at the airport alone one time, and I was asked to step aside at boarding for another random check. Before the woman went to wand me she asked if I was over 18....I said yes, and she said, oh you must be like me, I have such a young face...(let me tell you she wasn't looking all that young to me!!)
