I don't like Flying Coasters!

Today my son had a mission for me: To go on Superman Ultimate Flight, with him, and LIKE IT!

We got to Six Flags Great Adventure at gate opening.. used the Season pass entrance/lot.. all good. Walk to Superman, fine.. wait in line about 30 minutes.. fine...

Then our turn came... he bounds in and gets the shoulder harness over his head and shows me how the legs harness come over the same time. My son tells me how much I will LOVE THIS and how cool it is....

I am having some slight panic about this... I'm doing ok, sitting in the seat, having legs dangle away, just like any of the other dangly feet ones I have been on... Then I hear the ride OP words... "SINK"... and we do just that... we tilt face down to a "flying" position, and the floor vanishes...

I don't like this.. I know I am secure, but I worry about my son. He is over the height requirement, but he's still 8 years old. He just looks so tiny in these restraints compared to the grown men and women.. and when we sink.. he looks even smaller. I worry about him falling out.. even though he has ridden this before, and no problems (I'm a mom, I worry!)

First the lift hill, in this flying position... I really don't like this, and my son's hands are out in flying position, and now I'm thinking he is really going to fall out! I give him my best mom voice.. put your hands on the BAR! (all the while I am scared to death!)

Thr rest of the ride was a blur. I did not like looking face down to the ground... I did not mind the hills or even going backwards... but the position just freaked me out... thr pretzel roll wasn't bad either... I just felt really out of control on that coaster.. I know the restraints were safe, and its been tested... but I still didn't like it.

But I won't do that ride agian willingly (unless I am supplied with lots of alcohol!)

Now, I liked Dragster better than this... This was not fun!

Good for you Cindy. I couldn't get up the courage to go on the flyer, X-flight at Six Flags World of Adventure. And I don't think I can do Dragster, either. Millenium Force, I enjoyed.

Would you do Dragster again?

Dragster is really not scary... just really fast.. its over before you know it..

Yes, I would ride Dragster a ton of times... Mellinuem force as well... I went on Nitro today as well, and enjoyed it.

I prefer sitting down, enclosed cars. I I used to HATE dangly feet coasters, and have gotten over that... but this flying position.. YUCK!

SUF is amazing at Great Adventure!!!! I went opening day, I had press passes and had the coaster to myself with about 40 other people :) It was great, I rode well over 10 times in a row, we just switched seats each time the train came into the station.

The safety mechanisms are amazing on that ride, if that makes you feel any better. The scariest part to me would be evacuation if the ride ever got stuck on the lifthill. There is nothing beneath you, so they have a loading platform that travels up the hill and would evacuate the train row by row. Eeeeek.

Great ride though, at least you went on!

Your son is 8 and I'm assuming pretty big for an 8 year old, cause at 8 I couldn't go on coasters. If it makes you feel any better im 18, 5'2" and weigh a little over 100 lbs, so those restraints are fairly big on me as well. I've been fine.

I crack up when my mom is like "why don't you hold on!!!". No amount of convincing will help her understand that it doesn't matter. ;)

Yes, I know the safety mechanisms are good.. We used to drive up to GA every weekend in April to watch the construction/testing. I remember watching the testing with the weighted sandbags for a while...

Yes, my son is a big kid for 8. He just seems so tiny in comparison, to the grown adults on the ride. He is over the height requirement, so we weren't doing any tricks to make him taller, and they don't "stick " him anymore either.

I'm glad to hear that other younger/ shorter people look small in the restraints as well... his head barely peeked out... that plastic shield thing was near his neck...
