I just made arrangements to take one our our DS's friends with us to WDW this summer. We (both parents) have decided to keep it a secret for a while, mainly because we don't want to hear about it every day for 2 months!

We took a friend for our DD when she was younger and promised the same to our DS. He is now 10 and they will have a ball. His friend has never been on a plane and rarely gets to travel. We have decided to forego a rental van this trip to cover his expenses. (His dad is laid off and they can't afford anything extra. Since we are doing this for our son, we are going to cover it all for his friend.)

This is gonna be soooooo cool! This trip will be like pure fantasy to his friend and our son will love having a buddy.

I don't know if I'd keep it a secret too long. This will be the third time I've taken a friend of my DD. I like to build the excitemement and torture 'um! I show them the menus asking them to pick things out so I can get an idea of cost, (My DD salivates like a Pavlovian dog when she sees Chef de France!) Then I'll drop hints about the attractions like "You're not allergic to wasp or bee stings are you? The AK is full of all kinds of animals and insects!"

My dad used to do the same kind of thing to me! It's good to remember him as I carry on the tradition!

Well we are taking my DN this year. She is one of 8 kids, and although we wish we could take them all, she is the closest one to my DD and they are going to have a blast.

I am surprising My Dw and my 2 DS's on our 17th wedding annivesary to a trip to WDW.. I am bidding on e-bay for tickets on the auto train as we speak

How wonderful of all of you! We'll be looking forward to having you with us.

Have a safe journey to Orlando everyone.

How wonderful of your family, Claudia. :)

Some of my best memories are travelling with my best friend Debi's family to various vacation spots. Since I was one of 9 children, we rarely went on vacation in my family - but Debi was an only and they travelled extensively. I remember her mother telling mine how well behaved and well mannered I was, I think it was because I was so grateful (plus my mother threatened me with my life if I didn't behave! :p ) They even took me to Hawaii once, and California once. Such great memories, and while Debi's folks are gone now, I will always treasure that time I got to spend with my bf and her family. Their generosity was such a wonderful thing, and we shared so many laughs and good times on those trips. :sunny:

Hope your trip is just grand, Claudia! Can't wait to hear the boys reactions when they find out the big surprise. :)

Boy, I wish you had been friend's of my family when I was growing up! :) What a generous thing you're doing but I agree half the fun of a WDW trip is the anticipation and planning. I think it would be so cool to hear them talking about it! I'm going at the end of July with a friend and her adopted son. This will be the first time my youngest DS willl have someone to hang out with. Have a great time! For boys that age be sure to give them a lot of pool time. My 11 year old loves the pools at WDW!

TC:cool:

We are also bringing a friend for our oldest DD. They all got to pick out a restaurant to eat and planned whatt activities we would do!!

My 2 younger DD's can't wait until they can bring a friend!!! Although they are close in age and get along wonderful!!

LOL, you will have so much fun with this. :teeth:

and I think you should tell them! Just imagine the look in their eyes!!!!

My SIL & BIL let us take our DN in October. We couldn't keep it a secret, actually we used it as leverage. We would have paid for everything but they gave us her airfare & park ticket admission too. How good does it get.

Nothing against the rest like the other poster said, but this is the one that gets along with my DD best and is always an angel for us.

So when the time comes for our cruise we are hoping to bring her as well. Our treat but this will be for a little bit longer. I hope they'll let her come with us.

Have fun!

How very generous of you to take another child!! :)
What a big heart you must have!!! :) :) :)

LOL, Kirk! Sounds like a plan that I will enjoy concocting!

We are going to try to keep it a secret for a month and then tell them 4 weeks before we go. Both have camps before vacation and other things, so they will be occupied.

That also gives me time to create count-down calendars, teasers, and other stuff to build the excitement. 4 weeks of 10 yr old excitement is about all that this mom can handle! (......and even in those last 4 weeks they will be gone for 1week......)

I know that we can keep the secret but his mom is the one that may let it out. She will not tell him directly but will probably tell her family and friends and it will leak out.

In the meantime....... I'm gonna plot like Kirk.......

That is SSOOO cool!

I do that to my dgd

You have to come up wiith a really neat way to tell them!

Like Send them on a scavenger hunt and have a note with the news on it for them to find!

Hey just start a post and get suggestions!!!

It will be interesting!!!
