I don't get the Hype about Earl of Sandwich

People here on the DIS say its a "Must Do" I don't get it.

Everytime I've ever been near the place, peak, value, or just plain dead season, the line is practically out the door.

The sandwiches ae ok, but not very much meat. And definately not worth the wait. I'd prefer Quiznos any day.

Then there's thefact that on the DDP its a really crummy value for a CS. Its a $5 sandwich. You can walk a few feet to WGP express and have a really nice entree!

Oh well, I guess I'll just make the line shorter for those of you who love it by stepping aside and going elsewhere to eat.

I agree. I would just as soon have Quizno's or Subway. I, too, wanna get my money's worth with the DDP and I don't consider a sandwich from the Earl of Sandwich to be getting my money's worth.

I agree completely about the lines...we've never been able to try EOS because we've never had the patience to wait!

I guess Ill never get to try it either always line to long.

we just returned from Disney and we were in DTD twice and we ate there twice for lunch. We love the sandwiches ......yes we have quiznos here in Maine and also subway and D'angelos.....but there is something about this sandwich that I LOVE......My favorite is The Full Montagu......delicious

Oh thanks for posting this. It was on my list!! Off to check out the other menus just to be safe. Standing in a line for a sandwich with three kids is not my idea of fun!

we ate at EOS the last time we were there and while it was good, it was nothing to rave about and i can't say we'd go back again... but that's just my opinion... everyone's tastes are different

We really like the bread. Since we don't eat meat, the quality of their tuna sandwiches is well above that of the tuna subs at Quiznos or Subway. We're locals, though, so we can go whenever; we observe what times the lines are longest, and just don't go then :)

Cheers!

Whenever we go there the line is always long, but it moves pretty quick. I wouldn't say I wait much longer than another busy CS.

You are right, Earl of Sandwich is not a great deal on the meal plan. However, without the meal plan, it's a pretty cheap tasty meal considering the cost of other CS meals at Disney.

I agree. While it is an okay sandwich it's nothing I'd stand in line for. Also prefer subway or quiznos - I've not understood the hype on this one either. Plus it gets kind of dirty in there.

We pay out of pocket (never do the DDP since we have a DDE card) and love the value. The salads are really good (tossed fresh in front of you) and the coffee is the best. If we're at DTD we usually plan to eat here.

The prices are much more reasonable than most places on property, so yes, that means it isn't a great deal on the dining plan, but it is a very good value if you're paying out of pocket.

Price aside, I think it's pretty good. Not the best sandwich I've ever had, but no complaints. While the line is sometimes long, it and Puck Express are sometimes the only options in the Marketplace when you don't have an ADR.

Yeah, I never got it either. WPE is much better food and more unique.

I'd take Panera sandwiches ANY day. EOS was just nothing to write home about and overpriced, IMO.

When Earl of Sandwich first opened, I thought they sandwiches were great, and a good value when compared to the pricing of counter service meals at other places. The bread is really good. I also like the cheap side dishes--nice salads for a dollar to go with the sandwich.

I will say that the past couple of times I've gone I thought it wasn't as good. The meat seemed a bit grizzly, so I've skipped it my last couple of trips.

I agree...EOS gets way too much hype...

Decent sandwich shop at a decent price...not much more, IMO...

I think Earl of Sandwich is an amaizing location to eat at and if the lines are sometimes out the door, doesn't that tell you a lot of other people like to also eat there? If the lines are that long I save a table while my parents stand in line to order. Finally their prices are much better then Wolfgang Pucks Express, plus their food is a lot better. I know both locations are different, however after eating at both locations I find Earl of Sandwich way better.

I am local and used to go to EOS a lot. I do enjoy the food very much.

The service for me has gone completely downhill. My husband and I were there on March 17th, all I ordered was a smoothie. I waited...and waited, and waited. I waited until past my number was called. It was not busy, and there were about 18 people (my husband counted) behind the counter. They do not have an efficient way to handle just a smoothie, soup, etc. order. I tried going to the smaller counter by the other door and 3 employees looked at me, didn't help me. Sooo...I was waiting, and the "trainer" on duty was flirting with another employee and everyone was just standing around and noone was making my smoothie (until I asked about it).

I wrote a letter to EOS, haven't heard back. I also haven't gone back, where I'd have gone several times a month since then. I have never had a service issue at WP Express. The prices at EOS have gone up enough where it's not a bargain anymore anyway - I prefer the Cheesecake Factory Express at DQ. (I do still like the food at EOS).

We never do the dining plan, so for us, it's a great deal. True, the sandwiches aren't filled with meat, but it's definitely a good stop for lunch, and I would agree with others that it's the bread that makes this better than a Quiznos/Subway sandwich. And even though the lines have been out the door, we've never found the wait to take long.
