I don’t know where we’re staying, but I know where we’re eating! May 2011 *NEW 5/10!

that tour sounds amazing!! maybe one day i'll do that!

One of the perks of DVC is the discounts you get on tours, and the more frequent trips give you time to take them! We are doing 2 this trip, and hope to do more in the future!

Soon my dear soon :teeth:

Doesn't feel like it under the mountains of snow we have here... but tomorrow is a new month, so I guess that's progress!

We are exactly 3 months out from our trip!
Time is going by kinda fast, but kinda slow (does that make sense). It was a very busy weekend, so those few days flew by.
The best part of the weekend: my best friend got engaged! And her fiancee is a DJ and proposed during his set (which we usually are there for), so we were there for the proposal. :lovestruc
So happy for them, and excited to help plan a wedding that isn't mine :lmao:

A little bit of trip planning to report on: Ben called to check on our wait list status and got a little information. It turns out that there's no way for them to tell you where you are on the list/ your chances of getting the wait list choice. He also learned that at 7 days out (he thinks, may have the number of days wrong) they cancel the wait list. This was actually good news for me because I had visions of us taking ME to Kidani Village only to be told that we didn't have a room there and that we'd have to trek to the Boardwalk.
I'm glad that at least we'll know for sure where we are staying. And I truly am just as happy at one as the other. Here's why:

Kidani is less points (since we are not getting a savanna view), but less convenient location. Saving points for future trips is always a good thing! And we don't have kids and are pretty flexible with when we take resort breaks, etc. so if it takes longer to get around, no biggie.
Kidani is a pretty new resort. The reports and pictures I've seen all make it seem like this is a pretty eye-pleasing place! Plus the pool looks really cool.
The menu at Sanaa makes my mouth water. We have a reservation here, and I plan on keeping it no matter where we stay. It will be nice not to have to travel to AKL just for dinner, though.

On the other hand...
Boardwalk couldn't have a better location, but it is more points. Being that close to Epcot (and DHS) would be awesome! But we'd have slightly fewer points to work with in the fall.
Dining/entertainment is tempting. Between the Boardwalk and the Yacht & beach Clubs, there are a few places I'd like to try. I've never been to Beaches & Cream, and would love to! Not that we can't if we don't stay over there... it would jsut be easier.
We also want to visit Jellyrolls and it would be nice to just walk back to our room after.
But... the pool is creepy. We all know about the clown, right? The part that bothers me the most is the wacky hair that makes a wall on either side of his head. Freaky.

Add to all that the fact that we will eventually stay at whichever place we don't get to this trip, and it's true that we really would be happy with either.

Before I got all sidetracked by that, I meant to post Day 4 plans, so let's get on with it...

Wednesday, 5/4
We want to try and make opening for our Studios day. But since we aren't going to try for TSM, we have a little wiggle room here. Our main goal is to ride ToT and RNRC as many times as possible. I'd also like to see the Little Mermaid, since it's been several trips since I've done that.

We'll take a break in the afternoon and get a small lunch/snack. I purposely booked an early dinner at 'Ohana, and was thinking it could be our combined lunch-dinner. I feel like we are never hungry enough when we go there, so I want to make the most of it this time. This is one place that we will never skip. I just hope we get another awkward picture with our bread...

After dinner, we may pop into the MK for a moment. I'd like to see the Magic, Memories and You castle show. Have you all seen the video for that? It looks really neat!

But we can't be out too late, it's another early morning the next day!

I think no matter where you stay it will be awesome. I personally love the Boardwalk area! I love that entrance to Epcot. :goodvibes Only thing I don't care for...that creepy clown!!! :scared1:

Love your "awkward bread pic". Hopefully you get another one! ;) :thumbsup2

Both resorts are lovely and like you say, whichever one you don't get to stay in means you get to stay there on another trip :)

Day 4 sounds great, hope you get lots of rides in on ToT and RnR :teeth:

We walked around the Boardwalk area just for kicks last time... even though it was a million degrees and stupidly humid, it was so nice!

We absolutely will get to try out the other resort... I'm already thinking about our return to WDW (sometime in 2012, maybe 2013) and which couple of friends we'll drag along- if we book the room with our points, and friends pay for food, sounds like a good deal, right?

Sounds perfect :thumbsup2

Less than three months to go now! Ben finally got the artistic inspiration yesterday (and was clearly influenced by the 100 feet of snow we've had on the ground alllllll winter long) and decorated our countdown:

We had to kill one of the snowmen today, as it's hard to make a '7' look like a snowman. But at least the other one can hang around for a bit, yet :rotfl:
I will be sure to share any future artwork here!

I'm almost done sharing our day to day plans.

Day 5 is 5/5 (Cinco de Mayo! Ole!) our last full day...
We'll need to get up early, as we are meeting at 8:15 am at the Animal Kingdom for the Backstage Safari tour!

We didn't ride Kilimanjaro Safari on our last trip because honestly, neither of us needed to see the same old thing again. For an animal lover, I am the person least interested in looking at animals you're likely to find. (That's why we didn't go for a savanna view!)
What I am interested in, though, is how they care for them. So this tour will be perfect for us.

It's a 3 hour tour which begins at 8:30am, meaning we'll be done before noon. Just in time for lunch at Flame Tree BBQ! I adore this place... the BBQ chicken salad is so good! And it was closed on our last trip, so I gotsta get my fix this time around.

After lunch, we'll ride EE a bit, then probably head out. Ben does not have a need to see FotLK again (I really thought he'd like it more than he did when we saw it in September. And when he didn't I got mad and told him "it wasn't fair that he had pretended to like Disney when he obviously doesn't".

IMG_1579.jpg

That's me, mad. I pouted the whole time I ate a Mickey bar.
Then we bought a DVC member ship the next day. I guess I misinterpreted what he was saying that day at AK :confused3 )
Whoops, that was a whole lot of typing to say that even though I'd like to see the Lion King, I don't think we will.

This is the night we have an ADR at Sanaa and I can't wait! Nothing says Cinco de Mayo like "African food with Indian flavors"

You guys will love the tour very informative and fun and the safari ride is alot better too :)

That tour sounds fun! AK is so huge, it'll be nice to see the backstage areas!

Oh man, I'd LOVE to take my sister on that tour. I keep trying to convince her to go to WDW but she thinks she won't have a good time b/c there is not enough thrill! :confused3

Woohoo! The last time I checked we were at 96 days and now we are at 85!!! I didn't realize that my count was getting so low until I read your trip update...guess that's another perk of keeping up with people's PTR

You are going to love Sanaa--they have great food and wonderful views of the savanna. If you like scallops I highly recommend the mustard seed encrusted scallop with coconut cream sauce appetizer. One of my favorite dishes in all of Disney!! Amazing, just amazing!!

Love the artwork! :thumbsup2

Ben says "thanks!"

I am reallyreally excited! AK is a beautiful park, and I am looking forward to enjoying it in a new way.

I am so curious about the parts of the park not usually seen!

Maybe you could convince her to take a short trip, and lure her in? I know lots of people that I think would love WDW if they'd just give it a chance...

How fun that you get to be in Disney on Cinco de Mayo! And I love how you're planning to celebrate! :lmao:

Right? Didn't want to go with the obvious choice! ;)

Sanna is the thing I am looking forward to THE most! And we are both scallop lovers, so your recommendation will go to good use!

Yup, we're practically there already. Well... maybe not that close. But it's close...

Soooo.... you know how I said that last update was the plan for our last day? Funny how things change around here...

First, let me share with you an excerpt from an email Ben sent me today while I was at work:

"haha, so the DVC number is 1-800-********. I accidentally dialed
1-800-800-8900--an easy mistake. The other end picks up with an automated deep voice (think Worf from star trek) saying "this is the dungeon...the place for
men dedicated to the fetish lifestyle...if this is not you, hang up now"...i
took my cue, and hung up :-)"

Which I thought was pretty darned funny. But why was Ben calling DVC member services? Might have something to do with me saying something this morning along the lines of "maybe we could change our dates in May and stay through the weekend instead of coming back that Friday".

After I said that, I left for work. And Ben got to work... on investigating this idea. After hanging up on the 'dungeon line', he found out that there is no availability at the Boardwalk at all during our trip (when we booked, they had some of the nights available). So it looks like that wait list has almost no chance. But he did find out that we can stay at Kidani for 2 more nights, at the same level of room.
He also learned that Southwest had a flight out late Sunday cheaper than the flight we already have. If we changed our dates, we would save $60 on airfare. Sweet! And since Southwest does not have change fees, they are the best airline ever!

Guess what we did when I got home from work?
Soo.... I have an extra 2 1/2 days to plan. I don't think anything before this will change, since the tours and meals are already set. But what to do with these new days? This is so cool! :yay:

LOL-- my Trekkie DBF LOVES the Warf reference! How awesome though-- 2.5 more days!! Maybe another shot at TSMM? ;)

Yay for adding two extra days :yay: Wonder what you will do with those extra days :teeth:

Too funny about the "DVC" line
