I know this shouldn't be funny, but you have to admit, it is pretty bizarre and in it's own sick way, hilarious.

I also heard on the radio this morning saying that it wasn't that big a deal and that she laughed about it at the time. She said that it looked much worse on TV than it really was.

It looks like he barely hit the top of the hat. It doesn't take much to lose your balance in those costumes.
She was on tv saying it was no big deal.
What he did was immature and stupid.
And let's be thankful that for once there wont be a big ridiculous lawsuit!!
I'm thinking about suing because every since I have seen this on TV I have been wanting sausage and I'm trying to diet!!

I watched the video numerous times and it was a bop more than a hit or anything else. The costumes are weighted in the top with sand, that is why she fell so easily. And don't ya think they are made in a certain way to make the races a bit harder and have a better chance for a comedic spill to happen? I'm not saying what he did was right, it was pretty boneheaded. BUT, how many times have you been at a baseball game where you have seen the players interacting with the mascot(s)? I have seen plenty myself.

By the way, I have been enjoying all the humerous headlines!!!!

It was unfortunate and immature - but if you watched the Red Sox game on NESN, you had to crack up listening to Jerry Remi talk about it. He kept getting confused if it was the Italian sausage or the "big keilbasi" that got hit, and spoke of the nice weiner that helped the offended sausage up!

I am glad the girl is okay!

I'm not sure she was embarassed, though, after all she runs around in a sausage costume!

the way I see it, what he did was disorderly conduct, and he deserved the fine -- and possibly some disciplinary action from MLB. he's lucky that she didn't get seriously hurt by his roughhousing and that she's able to laugh it off, and that everyone can put this incident behind them.

I agree Robin. Regardless of the severity, it was just a stupid thing to do. She's ok, he was punished and now just looks like an idiot for an immature act. Everybody's moving on...

I'm glad the young lady can laugh it off and wasn't seriously hurt.

I'm thankful my extremely impressionable kids did not see the incident, otherwise they'd think swinging those bats at people is funny.

The player gave the mascots each a signed baseball bat. The cruel thought that came to my head was to put the player in one of those mascot costumes and let them do to him what was done to the sausage....we'll see how funny he thinks THAT is.

Getting tapped on the sausage probably wouldn't bother him all that much, and I doubt he would tumble over.

I think you're right, poohnatic. my 11 year old just cam back from a trip to Hershey -- a large group of kids from her camp went on this trip. she tells me that several of them thought it was great fun to poke the Hershey mascots. that it was harmless because "they can't feel it through the costumes." but I reminded her that she'd be a bit annoyed if she were in a costume and someone poked her, even if she couldn't "fell it." that got her to thinking.

I'm sure the ballplayer didn't mean to hurt the sausage, I'm sure he was thinking it would be cute or fun to swat at her. but she could have been hurt, and then no one would be laughing. overall, not a smart thing to do.

do you know how much padding she had on under her costume? and he didn't take a swing at her, he tapped her. and if you saw the interview with the girl after, she maintained the same exact thing. for gosh's sake were talking about a SAUSAGE costume!
