:cool1: I made my first paper piecing file for my craftrobo. It is a quail I needed for an animal swap I am doing. It is the first file I have actually made from scratch that is more than a simple outline. All the pieces cut out fine too. I am really excited- those of you that don't have a computer cutter probably don't understand the learning curve involved in creating your own files but it tends to take a bit of time. I have had my cutter since August but i haven't played with making file on my own too much (outside of tracing words which is simple with the new program.)

I just used scrap paper so the bird is red instead of brown. Also the feathers are blue instead of a brown. I lost the beak between the cutter and my xyron so it is not yellow. Not too fancy but I was happy with it. If you look closely you can see lines in the feathers that add definition.

That's great, Rebecca!! I have seen KAMommy work with her craft robo, so I can really appreciate how difficult that must be to do--I know I could never manage it!! I would love to see your paper piecing! :cheer2:

Post, post, post. I'd like to see the photo too.

So the ones you've been making for our swaps, they are files you found somewhere? They are all pretty cool.

Congrats on making your first file. :cheer2:

I'll post a picture when I return from Disney as I haven't taken one yet.

They are either ones I have bought, downloaded from one of many free sites or yahoo groups or modified from someone else's files.

The ones I used for the monthly swap I purchased.

The countries I have done are simple tracings so it is a different kind of file with the newest software I find an out,ine map- load it into the software and then it will trace it automatically and i can simple tweak a couple of cutting spots.

Word titles that are connected I make by overlaping letters in a photo prgram and then import as a picture and it traces it automatically. I don't actually have to do most of the work.

I have modified some files that I had found such as the cars for Test track in the Epcot swap. For the To Small to see I hand traced a few parts but most of it was letters and circles that cut more automatically.

For a paper piecing file the pices need to fit together but I can't use the same line so I have to draw it twice exactly correct. I also made dashed cutting lines for the feathers and such.

Have a great weekend. I can't wait to see a picture. What cutter do you have? I'm sure you have mentioned it, but I just can't keep them all straight. :rolleyes1

I have a craftrobo Pro- It uses basically the same program for creating files and shares files with a craftrobo and a wishblade. The difference is the size, cutting speeds, and materials it can cut. I can cut through chipboard that is thin easier than a craftrobo can cut through brazzill paper. I can cut up to 18 inches wide and 30 feet long.

Thanks. I am getting a small inheritance and I am considering getting something that will help me with my books, swaps and invitation making. :cutie:

I love it and highly reccomend it if you are good with computers. The programs can take a little while to learn but there is tons of stuff out there to use if you don't want to or haven't learned to make your own files.

I got mine for $999.00 with free shipping. It takes me more time to peel the items off the backing sheet than the cutter to cut a page full of items. I use one piece of paper for all the titles for a 6 person swap stacked on each other and that will normally take less than 2 minutes for the cutting.

Wow! That looks so great! Thanks for sharing! and thanks for the info about your CraftRobo. I think I need to do research! :)

Hey, I thought you were going to Disney today? Was that later today??

Very nice Rebecca...
She was waiting for her DH to get home a bit ago... maybe they are finally on their way now!!! ;)

Just an FYI about paper piercing, even though it sounds like that wasn't what the OP was actually looking for. ;)

Paper piercing is the name of a papercrafting technique involving punching holes into paper in a pattern. I've seen examples of it done on the edge of paper to make it look like lace, really beautiful! Also on frames or round pieces (sort of a doilie look.)

I found this website that has some examples:
