Finally after 2 yrs. of vasalating about buying a DSLR and spending all that $$ and arguing with myself if I really "need" it ?, its only me ?, my family is passed ?, should I do this given I like my photos from my Fuji S5000 ???

Well....I bit the bullit and bought a Nikon D80 w/18-135mm package + a Nikon 70-300mm VR ED AFS lens + 3 filters last night, on line from a reputable store. :woohoo:

Yes...saw lots of better prices out there, some hard to believe, and was tempted to go for them...till I read the customer reviews about the considered stores.
Guess I'm a firm believer of "you get what you pay for"...and an old family saying: " if you get something for nothing..someone is getting nothing for something".

Thank YOU ALL for your thoughts, advice and input :thanks: :cloud9:

I will definitely be back here....asking "newbie" questions !!

Hopefully I can step up to this camera and looking forward to enjoying more of these retirement years, traveling, my May DVC stay and my 1 month Europe vacation in June/July and mostly "better" Disney pics!! :cheer2:

enjoy your new purchase!! lots of photo ops to get started during the holiday season!

Wooo Hooo!!! Another NIkon owner :cool1: We are slowly taking over this board :rotfl2:

Congrats on the new camera. I have a D50 and I love it. One of my co-workers has the D80 and he loves his too. You will have to tell us how the 70-300 VR is. I really want to pick up the 18-200 VR, but funds are a little tight around this time of year.

Congrats again!

Congratulations. Funny that you worried about spending all the $$ for 2 years and then bought a mac daddy setup. I have a D50 and am about to upgrade to a D80 and I love Nikons.

If you had gone with one of those "too low" of a price stores, you would probably have been the one to get nothing for something.

I read a local story a couple of years ago about how one of those super low price places was not even a store and that it carried zero inventory. When they actually got someone to pay for all the way over priced extras, they would collect their money and go to a local store to purchase the items to send to the buyer using the buyers money. The reporter used the manufacturer to find out that the serial number of the camera had been distributed to a Best Buy store. The sad thing about it was that he could not find where any laws were being broken b/c the online store never claimed that it was new, carried a valid warranty, or that they were an authorized distributor. It is Buyer Beware these days. It is sad how many people fall for it.

I have the D200 and have enjoyed every minute of my shooting time with it. You'll love the D80! Heard GREAT things about it!

well not a Nikon owner so hopefully i won't be bannished from posting on this thread :smooth: :rolleyes1 ;)

but enjoy you new camera op. i think you'll be happy you got a dslr once you get used to it

Congrats! I thought about the Nikon, both of my photographer friends use them (both D-200's), but I went with the Rebel XTi. Eventually I want to work up to the Canon EOS-1Ds Mark II, only 7k

Great choice- I'm sure you will be pleased.

As a true Nikonian now, you should say nothing but great things about Nikon, nothing but bad things about Canon, and nothing at all about Pentax and Sony. Remember, it's not just a brand, it's an obsession. :cheer2:

Congratulations on your new Nikon camera and lenses! Welcome to the Nikon family too. Great choice for your outfit and glad to hear you made a safe purchase. There are so many horror stories this time of year. Please post pics :cool1:

Yes ... I'm still flying on a cloud !! :cloud9:

Many THANKS to "ALL" of you for your feedback and good wishes!!! :thanks: :disrocks:

I've learned a lot doing my homework and particularly that:
whatever the camera... be it a comparable "C" or "N" camera
..... its not only the camera ...but...
the person behind the camera that makes/breaks a great photo!! :thumbsup2

Now for the waiting game :faint: :faint:

Thanks Furgus ... I'll do that !! :grouphug:
