So I am finalizing things for our BWV/VB trip over MLK Day weekend in January, and DW announces that we need to fly out of Boston Early in the morning (but not too early) so thyat we get a full day in Florida on the first day of our 5 day weekend.

So Delta/Song, who we love!, was having a sale so sadly the 8:30 flight was chock full already and so their pricing madates that the price goes up, in this case from $77 some for the empty flights up to 125 some for the one we wanted. Waiting for the 11:30 ish flight would not suit DW, so we went over an looked at the JetBlue fares, and nabbed one quoted at $99 (ends up at $104.60 for the one-way with taxes and fees) for a flight at 9:10am. It was time to give JetBlue a try anyway and the time was better, giving us 2 hours+ more time away from New England in January.

Now for the way back to Boston, we got in on the sale and scored the one-way for $77.60 including all taxes and fees, and we figured a 3:15 flight ought to give us time to get back from Vero Beach and get us into MCO before the big rush on security after 2ish.

So there we are, a blended BOS-MCO round-trip costing $182.20 which is a pretty decent fare considering we got exactly the times and dates we wanted. The standard r-t fare on this route we have found to be around $200-$210, so we were satisfied with the savings. Yeah it would have been nicer to go for the $155.20 if we had bought earlier or taken a different flight. So we figure those extra 2 hours at WDW cost each of us $27, or $13.50 an hour (all the other costs are fixed costs so the really is the whole difference). IMO the extra hour of vacation is well worth the $13.50, especially since we have APs and will spend the extra time all 4 of us together at WDW.

So, perhaps the TSA will check us more thoroughly bcs of the one-way tix, but we're an awefully charming family (if I do say so myself) so I wonder how much extra time it will really take us. Wish me luck!

Congrats on getting everything booked, what a great feeling! I was the one who asked about booking the 2 different airlines a couple of weeks ago. Sounds like it worked out great for you. In the end we went with Jet Blue from Logan r/t because the only better deal was SW for the return flight and that would have meant returning to a completely different airport. Transportation cost to get home would have cancelled out any savings. Anyway, we got Jet Blue for $79 each way which I was very happy with, especially around Christmas. Our flight out has already gone up to $96, big difference since there are 6 of us!!

You'll have to let us know how it affects the security checks. And hope your charming family has a great trip! ;)

Me & DH did this in April going to Fl. for our cruise. I couldn't get a good price & times for us. So I booked AA going down & Song for our return trip. The times worked out great & it was actually cheaper. I may be doing this again for Oct.

Just be organized when you go through security. If you have carry ons they will go through them more throughly. Just plan extra time and you will be fine.
