Hi,

When paying with dollars travellers cheque what I.D. is required? Do I need to have my passport to hand or is a photo driving licence sufficient?

Thanks

Photo driving license is all I have ever needed and often they do not ask for that.

Most of time I've nver been asked for I.D. but it could always be that one time and if it does then I would say just pay by credit card that time. But certainly in restaurants or at Disney I've never been asked for I.D.

The only time I have been asked for ID was last October whilst in the POC shop. I was using a $500 tc and they asked for id and then rang in the check everything was ok. It only took a few minutes and then we were on our way.

Hi,
Strangely I've been asked for ID more when using a Credit Card than travellers checks. I carry my photo driving licence with me and this is always acceptable.

Good point Mick - this is because of the increasing amount of credit card fraud in the US.

Also because a lot of shops these days don't ask to even see your credit card as you just swipe it in the machine and can sign the screen anyway you wish.

One of my frineds who is American actually has on his signature line onthe back of his cards - PLEASE ASK FOR I.D. - Rather than his signature as a deterrent for anyone thinking of using his cards.

But certainly when shopping in Disneyland and WDW we have been asked for I.D. when using credit cards.

Ive never been asked for any ID, but carry some just incase.

We have always used a photocopy of our passport and it has always been accepted. I laminated ours so we can use the same copy year after year & it doesn't get wet on the water rides in the parks. I think it is a good idea to have a copy anyway in case you lose your passport at least you will have all the details.

Pleasure Island wouldn't accept my photocopied passport a few years ago.

Only been asked once in 4 trips for ID to support a TC transaction and that was in a WinnDixie store. Also never had my signature checked on a CC transaction! Obviously you do need ID, and I would take driving licence or passport.... a copy is fine until it is refused!

Do they really accept photocopies? That's ridiculous.

The whole point of seeing the id is because of fraud, and anyone could do a photocopy. I work in a bank and have the argument on a regular basis as to why we can't accept photocopies. I just don't think people realise how much fraud is around and that fraudsters have fake passports (let alone photocopies). I would hope that they did ask to see the real thing otherwise there'd be no point in asking to see it in the first place.

:)

We have been to Orlando 5 times and always used travellers cheques and credit cards and the only id we have ever used is a photocopy of our passport. It has always been accepted without question.
