. . . getting an airfare so low that I just had to go to DisneyWorld!
Let me back up. My daughter is going to WDW with her Girl Scout troop in June. We've been saving money to help pay her way while she has been drumming up money with her sister Scouts by holding fund raisers. The rest of the family has been a tad bit envious as you can well imagine, but we've been concealing our jealousy . . . I think.
Well, I received an email from AirTrain advertising low prices from DFW-MCO. The fares were $88+taxes and fees one way to MCO and $99+taxes and fees for the return flight. I just about jumped on it, but for some reason held back. I knew that could be disasterous given rapidly rising fuel costs, but I held back nonetheless.
As it turns out, I was lucky. My wife was on Hotwire a few days ago and called me about a $144 round trip fare, taxes and fees included. I scoffed at such a low fare, but I got online to check it out.
Of course, with Hotwire you don't get to pick the times or the airline. However, if it was true, for that fare I thought, "What the heck."
Darn the luck! That fare was gone, but by leaving a day earlier, the fare was $139 round trip. That was the full fare, taxes and fees included. I couldn't hold back. I input my credit card information and held my breath.
In seconds the response came back and the family was booked to go to Orlando. And the biggest surprise of all was that it was on AirTran and on the exact same flight numbers which I had nearly booked three weeks ago. Flights both ways are non-stop.
In this case the adage, "All good things come to him who waits." trumped "He who hesitates is lost."
Now all I have to do is get reservations and tickets to WDW. Maybe I'll hold a fund raiser.
