We love Wilderness Lodge. That said, there are fewer and fewer discounts offered as their rates continue to climb. The current Magical discount offers no discounts (on any type of room) at Wilderness Lodge for the first 2 weeks of November - I called first thing in the morning and was so frustrated by the continuing lack of discounts not offered for that resort. In addition to looking for a general public discount rate, I am a Passholder (even tho we only go twice a year) and have found no discounts available for standard rooms at Wilderness Lodge for the last several years. Occasionally there will be a "view" room but even with the discount, the price is higher than the standard rack rate room. Love WDW, Love Wilderness but fear the increasing costs and decreasing discounts will soon bring an end to our yearly visits to that wonderful resort.

I do "understand" that discounts are not guaranteed, and that we make our plans based on the rate we get at the time of booking. I just don't understand why there appears to be no opportunity at Wilderness Lodge to take advantage of discounts when apparently offered for all resorts.

This is what Disney intended to do with half the resort converted to DVC.

I agree. One of the DVC units, ( I never can get the WL DVC straight! LOL) was included in the FD that came out earlier this year, as was Kidani Village. It was more money than I wanted to spend so I booked OKW. I think that even while Disney releases some of the villas for discounts in the resorts that are DVC, they are able to keep rates up in the public resorts. I have been looking for discounts at BC but nothing that works for us, and the pin codes that I got were still more money that I have on the trip now.

We're booked in a regular Wilderness Lodge standard view for some nights in July. Found an AP rate that discounted the woods view to be cheaper than what we were paying for standard, then got a general public discount that made going back to standard view the best choice. Ended up paying $302 a night plus tax brought it to $340.

We have come to the realization that in order to get what we want we either have to change dates or increase the budget. Unfortunately even POR is hitting the no good rate or deal category for us so we are just paying more for less each year. It sucks but there it is.

have found no discounts available for standard rooms at Wilderness Lodge for the last several years.

The last couple times I have stayed standard at WL I booked through an agency exclusive deal way ahead of when general discounts were released. I am booked for the first week of December 2018 under this discount, booked back in December of 2017... paying $312 a night including taxes. There are so many fewer rooms now I think they just get booked way earlier, so Disney isn't discounting them like they used to. Only downside is I booked a standard view back when standard view could mean MK view... but now they are reclassified and mine is still standard. I check WL all the time for AP discounts too and they just never seem available. But if you start soon for 2019 you may find some deals!
