Some people say take the bus, some people say take your car. I have only taken the bus, and I have been happy with the travel times. So here's my challenge to you. If you have a car the next time you go, have half the family go by bus and half the family go by car then give us a report. The times should be from the lobby to the ticket booth.

I agree with your about the parks.....BUT, we rent a car for our resort hopping and dining. We are not park commandos only hitting 2 parks in 6 days, so having a car is essential to us.

Now if you want to do the challenge from resort to resort....you're on.

I agree that the actual drive time is probably faster by bus, but by driving I never ever have to wait to go....nothing is sadder than arriving at a bus stop just as the bus you need pulls away

we waited for them to arrive for a half hour after we got there.

Now it won't win at MK. but you say any park.

We have done it both ways and travel times will vary for both car and bus each and every time.

Usually most people realize when they take their car, they are not guaranteed faster service, they just like to be in control of the situation and not waiting at a bus stop.

We drive to MK anytime we are to be there very early, or, very late. You can wait for hours for a bus at some resorts. (We're DVC now and the bus line is much better). We also like the Ferry ride, but, have been known to go to the Poly and take the boats from there (usually after breakfast at the Kona or O'Hana).

We actually did this once, when my sister's family was too big for our car - MGM, Epcot and AK, we had time to park the car, get through the turnstiles, rent a stroller, and they met us at the stroller rental right about the time we were done putting diaper bags on the stroller.

MK - we met them at the turnstiles just off from the monorail ramp and got strollers together.

FWIW, we were staying at WL at the time. We also did this once at POR, and I think it was nearly the same - AK might have been a tie as well.

We have rented a car but don't usually drive it to the parks. We also use it to go to DTD and the other resorts. As well as stopping at a store before getting to our resort. We did drive to AK once I think.

I love the idea of this challenge!!

We are leaving in 10 days... I will try to talk my family into doing this for one of the parks, besides MK (we will mos def use the bus for this one). We use Disney transportation unless we are going to more than one place (ie, breakfast at Chef Mickeys, then Epcot - or something like that).

I don't care if driving my car to get to a park is faster, not driving my car is a part of my reality escape while ay WDW! I've always stayed onsite so I can use the Disney transportation. I drive 500-600 miles a week at home, I don't want to drive when I'm at WDW.

Who wants to fight traffic on vacation???? NOT ME!!!!

We usually have a car because we drive down from Maryland. After years of trying it both ways, we typically follow this rule of thumb:
If we're going to the parks, we take WDW transportation.
If we will end up at a resort for shopping or a meal, we take the car.
If we're going to DTD for shopping or a meal, it could be either one.

It's not the timing, so much as the convenience. The car is not popular because no one wantsto take the tram to the burning hot car.

We usually rent a car, not because of WDW, but so we can visit relatives in Georgia. Then we keep the car while we are at WDW.

Time is not everything. Parking your car when you get to the resort, and not getting back in the car until you are ready to leave the resort is all part of the experience. I keep going back to WDW for the atmosphere, not to see if I can get to any one park 5 minutes earlier then someone else.

We love taking the car as we've used the bus enough to know it's not the fastest transportation in the world. We use our car and will continue to do so for the rest of our trips to WDW. We'll use the bus on occassion, but won't be using it exlusively; more like sparingly. We always go with BIL, SIL and nephew (3), and my daughter is also 3, so we like to go and come from the park at our leisure for the afternoon naps.

I agree, if we want to go to a different resort we take a cab. Three or four cab rides is cheeper than renting a nice car for a week.

Hi Ho all.
When I visit WDW, I drive to the airport in Indianapolis and I drive from the airport home. I do not want to drive at anytime in between. This way, I can sight see too, I won't get lost, I won't have a wreck, I won't have to dodge busses, I won't get road rage, I won't run over anyone, and I can RELAX at WDW. Get on a boat, mono, or bus and the next thing I know, I'm at a park-worry free!
